Planning a trip in mid June with approx. 8 families (mostly adults, some teenagers) all with campers and UTV's. Where would be the best place to stay? I have read good & bad things about both the Idaho RV Park and the Sand Hills RV Park.

Depends-Are full hookups important. Idaho Dunes and Sand Hills have full hook up sites. Egin lakes is the BLM campground that is right by the start of all the big hills. Some of the spots have power but no sewer. There is water available if you have 100' of hose and they have a portable container if you need to dump mid week. Just talk to the camp host to borrow it. Those are your three options. We are use to desert camping down at ISDRA so we always stay at Egin.

We could dry camp as most have toy haulers and that's what we do most of the time, however...I have an RV and we are planning on spending a week up there so hook ups would work best.

We aways stay at Sand Hills as they have sites that are long enough for a 40 ft motorhome and trailer. I hate to have to drop the trailer which I believe is necessary at Idaho RV.

Sand Hills is the furthest away however, so you have to ride a while to get to the big dunes. Idaho RV is like halfway there and Egin Lakes is very close.

Egin lakes is money. Has water and sewer if you need to refill or dump. Your own gazebo electric and fire pit. Best part is you pull out on to the sand and your right there at the big dunes. Thunder/Crapos is right across from the camp ground. Oh and there is a little parts store. All of them are good but if you don't want to commute a long ways to get to the fun stuff Egin lakes is the place.

Have stayed at all three and now own lots in Sand Hills Resort which is by far the nicest of the three. Yes it is the furthest away but half the fun is the multiple ways to get to the lake or choke cherry hill , and plus you can cross over the road from camp and there is a whole other dune system that goes on for miles with no big climbers , but a vast system of medium hills & rollers. The best part of the (2) main full hook up resorts is that at Sand Hills your right at the dune entrance & at Idaho's resort you have to ride down a long private entrance corridor w/ posted speed limits that are enforced by a crotchety old fart that likes to scare kids with his bitter attitude. Either way go and enjoy yourself it is the most fun dune system I have been to ( Glamis , Dumont , Oregon , Utah , Nv--so far ) because it isn't over crowded , has a lake ( about waist deep at the deepest ) and in the heat of our NV / CA dune summers it's a refreshing change. PS one of your nights go into town w/ the Fam & eat at the pizza buffet parlor ( Pizza pie café )--well worth it

I have stayed at both sand hill and egin. Sand hills is way nice and pretty quiet for the most part. It does take about 10-15 mins to get to thunder/crapo from there though. Egin is nice because of the proximity of the big dunes. Quite a bit of traffic at egin compared to sand hills but it's totally tolerable. Egin is cheaper for sure. Either one you will love it!! Good luck.

My vote is sand hills. Great ownership and can't beat the shade and grass. Certain rules like no parking quads or gas cans on the grass but it's worth it. Free showers and laundry machines available too. Small store on site with ice cream and ice...misc dune accessories.
