Squealing noise under 10mph

Hey everyone, got a quick question. I've got a 2015 Rzr 900 trail, 75 hours on it and anytime I'm accelerating under 10mph, I get a loud squealing noise coming from behind my seat. I'm assuming it's coming from the belt housing. Worse in high gear but still happens in low. I just had it at a dealer for the recalls and they replaced the belt while it was there and the noise is still there, if not worse. I've got a couple ideas after researching some but I took a video of the noise in hopes someone could tell me exactly what this noise it, how to fix it or if I even need to worry about it. Thanks!

Yes, it is snorkeled. I'm sure it's magnifying this noise

I have a 2017 XP 1000 and it is doing the same thing under 4,000 RPMs in either low or high range. It is especially loud whenI am going up a hill. The dealer test drove it two days ago and said it is a normal noise. He said that the extra air ventilation for the clutch in the 2017 models lets you hear more clutch noises. I ordered a Gates carbon belt yesterday in hopes that it quiets down the squeal. It is really annoying when rock crawling and I bought the Gold XP 1000 LE just for rock crawling.
There's definitely more airflow going to my belt due to my snorkel. Annoying would be an understatement to me. It's like someone constantly screaming in my ear

Could be the air whistling through your snorkels. My 900 had the occasional squick and the normal jerky starts with a stock belt running a Gates carbon from hunterworks and no issues. I have not been able to make the belt slip. Water up to the seat and it was still trucking, creeping over rocks with no problems

I have exact same noise after installing Gates CF belt on 2015 900s. Noise is very subtle when cold and gets louder after about 10 minutes of driving. Only hear it from 0 to about 8mph.

I have this same issue with my '16 XP1k High lifter and just brought it in this week for service for that whistling sound coming from the belt/clutch and the 25 hour service. I figured it was like a clutch not greased or something.

They called me and said they had to replace the belt which was causing the noise at $170+ labor.

I just picked it up yesterday and didn't hear any whistling noise while unloading from the trailer but I plan to ride it this weekend.

But looking at the old belt I'm not sure what is wrong with it or why it would cause that sound. It looks like it's in good shape but I don't have a lot of experience with belts.

Same here 16 XP1K less than 15 hours on it . It started the same noise bone stock nothing done. Removed the belt cover and brought it down to the dealer.
They listened to it and when I shut it off one tech instantly points at the belt and said I smoked it . Change the belt and guaranteed the noise would go away.
So I ordered the Gates belt from Todd at Hunterworks .

Cleaned the sheavs (pulley's) installed new belt,,, yep same noise !

I call BS once again on polaris on their product !

Knocking on 20K for these things and everything is normal operation "operating as designed"....

I know but its kinda like the guy with the 100K porch pulls up next to you and his brakes sequel like fingernails on a chock board..
It just ain't right. ;)

I'm not knocking the Gates belts , but I really didn't notice a big difference really if any when I put the Gates belt on I got from Todd at Hunterworks.
I had thoroughly cleaned both sheaves then used brake clean on both of them, full wiped down with white shop towel so there was no residue of anything.
Put the Gates belt on fired up the rzr let it sit for a few minutes idling and the noise was not as bad but still there , put it in Neutral and rolled it out of the garage did a couple loops around they neighborhood in low.
Then went to back up and it had the same jerky like the stock belt did.
Then put some hours and miles on and the noise was back just as bad with the stock belt...

Saying this I just ordered 2 more belts from Hunterworks.

My 2016 XP 1000 did the same thing. Dealer did a complete clutch swap and it was still there. Polaris refused to pay for any repairs and Said it was normal noise even thou my dealer disagreed. I changed the clutch weights to 70gram and problems fixed. Guessing it wasn't squeezing the belt tight enough and allowing it to slip slightly.

I'm glad I found this thread. I took my brand new 16 out today to get some break in on it and at 33 miles I started hearing this same noise. I figured it was due to running it for a good spell. I was in low all day trail riding and did vary the throttle. I stopped and had some lunch and let it cool down good. When I took back off, there was no more noise. When I stopped, I did feel the belt cover. It was warm, but nothing excessive IMO. I will get a belt ordered just incase. If that doesn't work, clutch kit.

DuaneBoyce is the only one that seems to have fixed the problem. It sounds to me like he is likely right.

I agree with the comment about the guy with the Porsche but it is what it is and since it does not seem to hurt the belt and I am hesitant to change the weights on the clutch, I will just continue to ignore it...at least till it bites me.

Have a great day!

I ran my 900 trail hard today and the gates c-12 belt held up great

There are 5 new 2016 XP 1000 owners in my riding group. Before before i changed the weights and most of the squeal went away we all drove each others and they all said the same thing "What is that noise? Thant not normal!" Normal squeaks and rattles are normal that sound was obviously not normal. On a side note my SSV stereo and sub does hide most of everything else. LOL.

I was just by my local polaris dealer picking up some stuff. While I was there I asked about it. The employee there told me he sees it all the time. He said there is nothing that can be done about it. He explained that it's the belt making noise on the sheaves. He stated as the belt wears in, it should go away.
Just passing along what I was just told..

My 2015 Highlifter does the same thing. My wife commented to me that it seemed odd so I'm starting to do the research. It only has about 20 hours on it so I can see where the belt, being brand new, may cause a noise like that, but it sure is noticeable in the HL. Probably louder to me also because the snorkel going to the belt case is the closest one to the driver.
