Hoping someone can help me. How do you know if the spague carrier in the front dif is damaged? I have some clunking in the front end when I make a turn with the steering wheel fully turned. Almost seems like the 4x4 is stuck on? Any ideas?
The only way to be sure is to remove the front diff and take the side cover off, it will be obvious then. It will either be in pieces or be cracked. You may want to check your front CV joints first though just in case, based on what your symptoms are.
I decided to check my sprague because there was a lot of metal on the magnetic drain plug. I had drained and changed the fluid a couple of weeks prior and the plug had a lot of metal. Then after running the fresh fluid for a couple of weeks, I drained it again and there was a lot of metal again. My sprague was busted, but hadn't exploded yet.
