It seems everyone leans towards them being bad when someone posts about clearing tires or wanting a little more stability and more often than not the reason against them is because they add stress to the hubs or wheel bearings or suspension parts. They then recommend getting offset wheels instead.
Comparing same width gains say 1" spacers and a 1" farther offset wheel. How would the hub/wheel bearing know the difference between a spacer and a farther offset wheel. Either way there is that much more leverage on the hub/wheel bearing since the outside edge of the tire is 1" farther away from the hub. Either way the spacer or offset wheel is flush up against the hub distributing the load evenly.
I know I'm setting myself up for a lot of harsh comments but I just don't understand the negative attitude towards spacers.
