No crank! but you have plenty of battery juice!

Wow looks like some type of electrical problem.
1st check ti see if your drive and belt are moving inside the motor
2nd check to see if you are geeting juice from in to your key and back out the other side.

Mine did something like that but it was that the RZR had drain the battery to low and it stop going up a small hill, it stop and did not start anymore till we jump state it ;-)

 

First be sure the engine will roll over by hand. If not then engine trouble. If it will then check elect circuit and starter

 

Also check the fuel main fuse panel.

 

Without getting a test light or meter on your ride, it's going to pretty much bre a guess. If you find a fuse has blown, be sure to check your ground cables for loose or poor connections. I guess it wouldn't hurt to check the power cables to the battery and solenoid as well.

when you turn the key, does it do anything at all? does the dash light up? if not, there is a fusable link in the harness that will pretty much shut everything down..
if it will turnover but will not start check your fuel pump relay..

 

The dash lights up, and the lights come on, and the winch still works, so I'm thinking the battery is okay....goes in the shop in the morning. Between warranty and insurace, shouldn't be a big problem, I'm just hoping it's simple so I have it back before the big RZR ride at Black Mountain.

Baditude, I saw about 3 other RZR's on the trails from Sat thru Monday, and a couple others in town. All were pretty much stock except me. Saw one coming back out being towed due to a popped belt.

 

Sounds like the ole fuel pump to me....

 

Hmm def sounds like an electrical problem i would say. Blown fuse or loose ground or connection kind of wierd though. If it was the fuel pump wouldn't the motor still crank over though and just not start? I have not delt much with EFI engines so i don't know but i know on other vehicles if the fuel pump is bad the motor still cranks just does not fire.

 

did you check the fuses ? 25 amp?

 

I almost forgot, what about the diode to the right of the fuse box??? I know everything can be powered but not allow the engine to crank when it's blown.
You can by-pass it and then see if it starts, just remember to disconnect the jumper if the RZR starts.

 

Motor should turn over if the fuel pump is dead, but does the fuel pump pressure up when you turn the key on? Have you had the battery out lately? I would check the terminals make sure their tight first. If not that then make sure all the ground wires are tight and connected.

 

doctahB find the starter silanoid and turn the key on than take a screw driver or some kind of metal tool that will reach and by-pass the silanoid power to ground. this will through a big spark and its a risky thing to do on a unit with a computer but the engine should crank and start. I think you have a bad starter relay or a bad starter silanoid. well your not on the trail anymore so dont do that. if you was on the trail that would have worked if im correct. but dont take a chance at spiking the computer. take it in and if im correct it should be covered under warrenty. If thay dont have one in stock tell them that you have a ride in two days and ask them to take one off a new unit. good luck.

 

i know one guy that had a bad silenoid, also check your brake switch wiring..
that might be the problem if it wont turn over, but idnt you say it just died? so it died, electrical works but the motor wont turn over...?
does it make a noise when you turn the key to try and start it?

 

You guys are right, I didn't read your post far enough. If it was the fuel pump that shouldn't affect the starter. I would have someone try the starter while checking for power with a meter at the starter. It is most likely a blown link or diode like RZRider stated.

 

my guess is she seized did you checkthe oil level?

 

the headlight 20 amp fuse will also not let it start but nothing works when that fuse blows first thing i alwas ck is fuses

 

martymoe is correct i forgot you died while you were driving. If the computer lost a reference the engine should still crank. There must be something shuting it down. like low oil sensor or something like that. could be brake peddle sensor but i would think that safty would be an issue if they designed it to die while driving.

 

Still no report on what the problem actually was huh?

 

Well, dealer says so far they found a nuclear CVT belt meltdown....the pieces blew a hole thru the cover, I'm waiting on a new one. The guys in the shop were out picking up parts, so I didn't get to talk to them, and the dealer wasn't sure if they've checked the front shocks yet....I'll find out about them this afternoon. I'm still waiting to talk to the main mechanic there, and see what else he's found. Would the belt melting make the engine refuse to turn over? Maybe a safety thing to keep from revving the engine too high w/o a gear engaged?


Hopefully, I'll be able to just go ahead and buy some aftermarket shocks and belt and get back on the road in time for the April ride.....we'll see what the estimate for repairs is and what my warranty and insurance cover.

 

I'll be interested in hearing what the dealer says about the shocks and if they will cover them especially since you have your front swaybars off.

 

Me too. Not to mention the Highlifter springs and shock spacers that were on the front. In hindsight, I probably should've left the shocks set a little stiffer than I did. :think:

I kind've assumed that the warranty's not going to cover the shocks, since I modded 'em....I'm hoping that my insurance will pay for shocks; I've got a $500 deductible, but I'm hoping the dealer will help me jack up the estimate for repair enough to get some Elkas or something covered I'll gladly pay a $500 deductible to get some $1500 shocks

 

I am fixing to remove some stock shocks and they are going in the trash....

 

if the belt shredded, it might have gotten wrapped around the primary clutch and physically hung the motor up.
the stock shocks are about 90 dollars a piece.

Talked to the mechanic, belt shredded and wrapped the primary. He said he can get the shocks covered under my warranty, so should be back on the road before the April ride.

 

By the sounds of it i am going to be putting an upgraded belt in my RZR tool box.

 

Wow that is crazy must have been some melt down to lock out the motor like that
