Snorkels and blown engines?

I am not against snorkels so let me start by saying that.

I am just wondering how many have run snorkels on the rzr and had major engine issues.

As some may recall they had to put a brand new engine in mine. Everything except the valve cover was replaced. Even the clutch spun off and was torn up.

I had my snokeled to the room and vent lines exteneded running the utv inc air box.

My question or wondering is do you think this was the cause?

I run this machine hard but I think we all do. I put it to the floor on a regular basis is this more that we can do with the snokels on?

In order to run wide open do we need to be stock or not have them to the roof?

Since mine has a new engine I have not put the utv inc air kit back on yet and I have not put my snorkels back on as of yet either. However I want to but still a little unsure. Am I driving to hard with snorkels on it do I need to drive it easier once th esnorkels are on it?

That was my orginal post of what happened.

Like I said not against them just trying to figure out if its something that we are doing wrong that makes this happen. Or is it just one of those things where it was going to happen no matter if I had put snorkels on it or not.

I loved having snorkels on mine and want to put them back on. However I do not want to blow another engine.

I have had snorks on my RzR since the day I bought it. I have MANY friends that have them on theirs. I'm now having to rebuild my motor in my rzr 800 due to MY stupidity. I honestly do not think snorkel systems have anything to do with rebuilding a motor, again that's just my .02.
However, after putting snorks and a aftermarket exhaust I found that I HAD TO add a programmer to it. I chose the PC5 and had it tuned. Before adding it, I found my bike to run like crap due to it running too fat.
Since adding the PC5 it ran like a champ until I blew it up in a mud hole. "Pin it to win it", that's how I was riding it.
I hope this helps and good luck with your motor rebuild.

I have mine snorkeled halfway to the roof and my friend has his snorkeled a little higher than mine. I have ridden in water up to my chest however my RZR is not that old. I have not had any problems with mine nor has he so far. I know some people who have theirs snorkeled to the roof and they have had theirs for a while and no problems

No I took the snokels and the utv inc air filter off of it. Then took the bed off of one of our other rzr and put on mine that way they could not see the holes cut in the bed either. They are very picky about this they took pictures and had to send them in and then a PO PO guy came by to look at the machine before they approved any work on it.

Mines an 08. Snorkeled it 12 hours after I bought it. Run it hard, raced it in the pits. And now just mud/trail ride. I have the utv inc sealed intake, ran stock box for a while, then a kn on top of snork w/o the air box, then UNI in place of kn. but sucked it up and bought the utv inc. no problems here. It's been upside down in about 6' of water about 3 years ago. Took it home Flushed it all out very throughly. And then some. Still runs like a champ. I do change oil more than what is recommended. And check after every weekend of riding.

As long as u compensate for the mods, it shouldn't matter. I've got looney tuned duals and a pcIII.

However there are those freak deals that do happen.

Best of luck to ur decision.

Question for you what did you use to connect the snorkel pipe to the utv inc canister? They gave me a large hose however its to large for the 2 inch pipe used for snorkel. The two are diffrent sizes and I never found a great solution. I bought another ruber coupling from home depot and put the one they gave inside that to make it work.

Ok I am leaning towards the fact that it must have been something that was going to happen no matter if I had snorkeled it or not. As one person said probably a bad rod and it was going to fly apart anyhow.

I will start on installing my snorkel system back on the machine.

The hose they give is a 3" hose. I used did what you two
Guys have done. I cut down the hose to be a lil longer than "neck" on intake and used a 3"x2" CT (rubber reducing coupling) to the 2" PVC pipe. I did not have to silicone mine. I tourqed the s/s bands down to 65 ft lbs. I then cranked up the machine and blocked off the air intake snorkel and it holds suction for as long as it is blocked.

How long was it before u installed the utv air intake? How long did you have the stock system on for? Dusty conditions? Did it ever burn oil? Has it ever been sank?

It was all stock for about 6 months. I did sucks some water into the factory intake box one time.

Did a full clean out and change of fluids pulled plugs blew out cylinders the whole nine yards.

I had the snorkels and utv inc kit on for maybe two weeks and thats when it happened. Had never burned oil at all.

Dang. I can understand your frustration. There's a lot of ppl who mud/water ride with snorkels with other utvs and atv's with no issue. Myself being one. Hope you don't have any more problems for sure, and hope I didn't just jinx myself!!!
