I used low once when I was dragging a 60" blade for my tractor from down over the hill to the front yard... Beyond that, I don't really USE Low. Shifting to high and hitting the gas seems to work in pretty much any situation I've had the Rzr in :)

So any of you guys who don't use low do any rock crawling with 27" tires or larger in high range?? I'd love to be on that ride so I can see some carnage - belt smoke, tire smoke, blown axles or just flippin over bckwrds. I use low quite frequently while in tight twisty trails, or technical climbs. It would be cool to use low for the holeshot and then be able to bang it into high - don't think so? try it, start in low and mash the throttle - way better launch!, but ya can't shift it so let off! I've never owned a truck you could do this in either, but the thought always crossed my mind. Oh, except for my 78 cherokee 401 w/ t18 4 spd - granny 1st, locker in the rear and 33" tires on the street powershifting granny to second felt like it was going to lift the tires!! No wonder I shattered 2 ring gears and 1 pinion in a summer - boy was it fun. Almost untouchable light to light.

I thought it was strange at first, but when you stop and think about the fact that low and high are transfer ranges and not like 1st and 2nd in an automatic transmission it makes sense. I think maybe this is what people may overlook at first. It's easy to see low and high on the same shifter as park and reverse and think of it like an automatic transmission.

You guys rock crawling at 1.5 mph or something? Who the hell actually uses Low range? Put in High and press the skinny pedal on the right.
sometimes less than 1.5mph.

and dont forget, low range in an 800 rzr takes you to 30mph. its an extremely rare occasion when i hit over 30mph where i ride. actually the average speed going by the hour meter and odometer is about 8mph. I use high range if i'm on flat ground for a long time or if i can keep my speed up above 15mph OR if i'm really needing the fuel mileage.

I think shifting from L to R quicker would be the ticket rock climbing. Yes, it is done with addition of a park lockout but the design of the gearbox requires actual meshing of the straight cut gear sets which, if motion is not completely stopped, will round off the gear tooth corners rather quickly. Now, a dog ring box (in which the gear sets are always meshed and the driven gear is chosen by dog to dog engagement) would be the cat's arse.

More then anything i'm WOT in high. I use low however for intense obstacles offroad, going up or down a steep hill, Pulling somebody out or Deep snow. I would hate to lose power halfway up a near vertical climb.

Same goes for my truck. I'f im having a "oh sh*t moment" im in 4 low.

I don't really mind stopping to shift between low and high range. Would be nice not to though, but I understand why the gearbox doesn't allow it. I do have to wonder what was going through their minds with the shift pattern.

P-R-N-L-H when everything else is
P-R-N-H-L

Have to think to pull all the way through to high, rather than stopping in the "low" position, when every automatic trans has high there.

I don't really mind having to stop, I use low a lot on the slickrock & trails here, what did take me a while to get used to was keeping the revs up on a steep decline while breaking with the left foot, hard for me & I am used to my Jeep which doesn't free wheel like the RZR it just crawls down.
Guess none of it has been as hard as learning to drive on the opposite side of the road than Australia, that took me months
