Secondary clutch inspection - replace buttons?

My clutch hasn't been as smooth as it used it. Also, smoked a belt on my last trip climbing a water fall. Pulled my secondary off to take a look inside. My sliders are toast and been eating into the clutch. Those are defiantly get replaced. Question is, should I replace the buttons as well? They appear to have some wear. But I've never had the buttons off a XPT secondary so I don't know what shape they SHOULD be. I.E. round, square, convex.

First 2 pics are the sliders. No doubt getting replaced.

Second 2 pics are the buttons. Thoughts?

Mine look similar. Maybe not quite as bad. But I have my clutches apart right now to replace the spider assembly (Polaris bulletin parts) and decided to just change out all the wear parts (sliders, buttons, etc.). And then I'm shipping both clutches out to get balanced. Not sure if yours is a 2016 or not but I noticed the Helix buttons for 2017+ are a different part number. Sliders are the same but buttons changed. I just don't know if the 17+ buttons will work on a 16 or not.

Mine is in fact a 2016, with 2,000 miles.

Good thought on swapping the '17 buttons into the '16. You'd think they would have superseded the part number for the '16 if it was backwards compatible. But who knows with Polaris, they're done weirder things. Wounder if I should take the gamble on this? I'll do a little research and see if the Helix is the same for '16/'17. If so, I might pop for the '17 buttons. Only about $45 for all 3.

One last question:

I have BMP's clutch weights in there now. When I first bought the kit, they didn't have any aftermarket secondary springs or primary springs for the turbos yet. I was wondering if I should install there springs in both clutches? This would just help belt tension and back shifts correct? It wouldn't effect my powerband? Worth wild upgrade? about $50 for both springs.

I am not a clutching expert so I won't offer an opinion on how much wear is too much. But that being said, the first time I opened up my secondary clutch, I knew the composite parts (sliders and buttons) were going to be high wear parts. I was seeing wear with low miles on mine.

Have new clutches on mine now, warranty issue, but know its a matter of time before I will need to replace those wear items.

I bet that some of the clutch issues, broken belts that many report on the forum may be traced back to worn out composite parts.

Also, I have been wondering if Desert Molding Concepts will be making some of these parts out of the same material they used to make the high quality rollers for the XP1 secondaries? Including the primary composite sliders. Those XP1 rollers were awesome and held up way better than OEM.

Where are you sending the clutches to get balanced? I have a primary that I think is out of balance but can't find anyone who balances them. It's a 16 turbo primary.

Called SLP but they said they can't do the XPT for some reason. Then I found this place online and he said he can do it.

Clutch Balancing - Patrick Custom Carbon ? Online Store

$75 each for primary & secondary. A little pricey I think but he seems to do quality work and has the correct balancers (not using a tire balancer). And he gives a print out of before and after. I took apart my secondary awhile ago and not 100% sure I put everything back in the same spot. I forgot to mark everything but was being careful of how I placed everything down and then afterwords I marked everything how I thought it goes. I haven't had any trouble but I heard most of these aren't balanced well from the factory anyways. So this will just give me some piece of mind.

They invented the primary clutch sliders i was looking for a helix for a 16 turbo but nobody has one . I think the 17 helix will fit and is better

Changed out secondary sliders today. 2100 miles. There was some wear. Not bad though, prob could have gone another 1000 miles I bet. Changed em out anyway with 3p ones.

So, I wanted to bring this back up top to post my findings.

I was originally having problems with my clutch shifting out. It felt like I would get off the throttle then back in it when I was actually at full throttle.

Replaced both my buttons in the secondary and my sliders in between the clutch. Ended up taking it for a ride yesterday and all is well again. My worn buttons were definitely not letting the helix shift out correctly. I went with OEM buttons but would have popped for the 3P buttons had I known about them at the time.
