Thinking of taking the pro R 4 next week to the dunes (Pismo). I’ve got stock tires. I don’t go crazy but any thoughts on running it with air’d down stock tires? Or will I need something more sand friendly? I don’t want to get stuck but I’m likely out of time to order a reasonably priced set at this point in time for the trip.

How often will you ride there? I have friends who have ridden Little Sahara on OEM tires. I think they dropped their tire pressures to around ~5 PSI and had a great time with few issues. You just had to maintain momentum. Paddle tires are obviously better but how often will you use them?

Hmm, staying elsewhere but would trailer the RZR in for the day. I wonder if it’s open for riding atleast

good to know. Pismo would be very infrequent. Maybe once a year or two. Assuming is doesn’t get shut down next year. I won’tcamp there it’s too rough on the metal with rust. I do plan to go to glamis a few times a year. It might be worth running stock tires up front and a set of paddles in the rear just didn’t want to store them (or pay, lol)

Usually in the past went around October. Camped there and it’s rough on the Honda ATVS. Maybe that’s part of staying 3 nights and always washed it off after the trip, never ran through the salt water either

Found a set of stock pro r wheels with SS 360s mounted, new. $800. 32x10x15 all around. They are not the HPs and all 10” wide. What do y’all think? Worth the savings or spend the $1600 for beadlocks, getting wider rears, etc. I don’t drag race or rip around so maybe I don’t need it…

I wouldn't buy paddles for Pismo (unnecessary), but for Glamis sure. I would get a full sand tire set and offset the rims for stability. Stock xp1000 feels too tipsy in the big dunes pro R is already wide though so I'm but sure. That said, you can dune with stock wheels just fine if you know what your doing and if you lower the pressure but sand tires sure are nice. Get something light weight, and don't worry about scrub radius etc. Been running 5-3 offset fronts for years with my sand tires without any issues with ball joints etc. The extra stability is worth it Can't go wrong with STUs or 30" skats, but there are other options. If you over paddle, or go with cheaper heavy paddles you might regret it. Also good tires will be easier to sell later should you need to.

Beadlocks are cool, but not necessary for sand tires and will result in extra weight.

Not familiar with the 360s.

The Pro R should do fine with stock, maybe just run the stock setup and check out what others are running to get some good ideas.

pass!!!. The Pro R is a heavy car and needs wide tires for flotation. Packard sand tires on 8"/10" wide wheels is what i run and love it.
