I have been using a Samsung Tab A for a few years now. If you have a router for a computer at home just plug it in or use a wireless connection to find good program for mapping. I am using BackCounrty Navigator Pro. I have never used data prescription for it. I use the wireless to my router. There are several mapping programs you can download for a small price.

Thanks a million you guys!!!! Heading back over to buy it. And yes all Tab a’s have gps.
Whoa, I hope you didn't buy it. You need more then just a GPS for good trail navigation. You also want to look for a built in gyro and compass, so the gps knows which way you are going. I had a Tab A and it was worthless. You had to drive down a trail for quite a ways before you could determine that you took a wrong turn.

How can you tell if it has a compass or gyro?

I just moved up to a 10" Samsung and I am selling my 7" Samsung with the extra case and ram ball mounts with Orux and Back County Navigator already installed with maps for AL,GA,IN,KY,LA,NC,OH,SC,VA,WV

As soon as you move it will correct any issues with direction of the map. The Gyro is only need for speed and I have a speedometer.
That's not true if you are going slow you "might" get by without these: Accelerator, gyro, proximity, and compass. However, if you are moving at a good clip your navigation device needs these to sense the change of direction of the car. Case in point last summer we were in Bridgeport CA, and our ride was to the Bodie ghost town in NV. I had my track drawn out so all I had to do was to follow it, But because "MY" Tab A only had a GPS, it could not react fast enough and we went down many a wrong trail and had to turn around.

I have a Moto Tab 4, 10" tablet with a free Sim card from Google Fi. Use ride command, Gaia, OnXOffroad, Spotify or Pandora for tunes, GPS Speedo, etc.
send texts from my buddies. Working on routing car to car comms through the internet connection so my wife can sit at home and listen in...ha.
Tablet is the way to go for sure. So many more uses than just Ride Command.
