RZR Shakes Terribly

Have a RZR 4 2011 with a couple hundred miles on it. When riding at about 20 miles an hour it shakes horribly (just happened to be the speed I was going). It may happen at faster speeds. The shaking seems to be in the rear. I have checked the wheels and tires and they seem to have no play when grabbing the top of the tire and trying to move them back and forth. I took off the belt cover and the belt seemed to be in good shape and everything seemed tight there. Wiggled the drive shaft going to the front wheels and it seemed to be fine (although the shaking happens in 2 wheel drive). Once the shaking starts I can stop and go again. The shaking may start again and it may not. It does seem to be shaking more as I have ridden it more. The first time it happened it only happened once on the ride (short ride of about 8 miles). The last time it happened 3 times and it was a much shorter ride (maybe 2 miles).

I took it to the shop because I couldn't (and still can't) figure out a way to explain what is happening so I worried you guys wouldn't be able to help since I cannot explain it. Of course the shop has a backlog of 4 weeks before they can even look at it so thought after hearing that I would give the ole forum a shot.

I would appreciate the help everyone.

My guess is the clutch belt is bad. I had a similar shakin goin on. After I buried the unit in about four feet of snow. Then winched and high rpms in awd got us out then the noise and shaking started. It got me home though. New belt. solved. Note: get the tougher thicker belt when you replace it. It should be around 125 bucks ( for the part) Mine is a rzr 800 ( not a 4 or an xp just a base model rzr 2011) Your kid must have rodded the thing without you knowing. Usually you can smell the belt breaking up and see a bit of rubber smoke. Or you didnt notice. Its really obvious when the belt is bad. It does ride rough. I only had 1000 miles on it when we smoked the belt.
For future belt saving keep the transmission in low when stuck and using high rpm. This is what they told me at the dealer. I had it in high 4x when this part failed.

I would take a look at the drive shaft from the transfer-case to the front diff. There is a carrier bearing that could very well be bad. If the driveshaft is out of balance then you would get a vibration like that too. Most likely its that carrier bearing gone bad.

if it only shakes in 2wd and not in awd then it may very well be a u joint on the drive shafts. In awd it puts pressure on all ujoints so shaking will stop or the shaking may calm down. Im not at home right now to see if there are or where there are ujoints, but this is my experience when shaking has occurred on my atv.

I would definitely check the belt first - had one go in my RZR. Will definitely shake and thump. I had a wheel bearing go in my Sportsman 800 and of course it shook - but It was obvious I blew a wheel bearing when up on the stand checking the wheels for play. If it was shaking that hard and was a wheel bearing you should have saw some play when you jacked it up. If its not the belt check your fluids. My local dealer has sold a few with no trans fluid or rear differential fluid. So much for their $200 prep charge. My Sportsman 800 came from the dealer blowing smoke with an extra quart of oil from the factory. I checked all my RZR fluids as soon as it came off the trailer.....

I to have A 2011 rzr 4 and had the same exact problem as you described. It was the carrier bearing. I replaced it with a greasable pillow block bearing and that took all the shaking out. My rzr only had 180 miles and the stock Polaris bearing was completley froze up and the rubber around the bearing was chewed up. Basically the bearing was flopping around in the metal housing. I think the new parts from Polaris were going to be like 50 dollars. And I paid 12 dollars for the new pillow block style housing and bearing that is about 5 times as heavy duty and it's greasable. I would pull your center console and check the bearing.I am going to put some pics up later of the new pillow style bearing installed.
