Wow, that RzR got so messed up it looks like a Can Am!! All joking aside, I hope some local members will step up and help this guy out. Iets face it... this would actually be fun to try and recover.. its what offroaders live for, isnt it? I hope this guy is ok, and good luck.

I spoke with Greg looks like it mite be a helicopter type recovery
OUCH!!
That doesnt sound cheap at all! I would think a good truck, with a good winch, and some chains, and a couple good guys could get that out of there. Probably only cost a couple cases of beer at the end of a eventful day! :pint:

Yeah, expensive is what i was thinking too. Think you can get it out without the need for that. I'll tell you this though Gregg, if you go that route, you BETTER get pics! Who's ever seen that?! I mean come on... Can you imaging being able to tell that story? "Yeah, one time i got so stuck, i needed a helicopter to get me out..."

Havent yet heard from the Precision Lift Helicopter Company.
Can't get a truck or jeep up there cuz I was mistakenly on a single track trail.
I think its doable with two or three guys who know rigging and a chain saw.
Also I'm still waiting to hear back from a Jeep Club up there called "Jeepers Creepers"

Gregg, I just sent Frank a PM. But since you said you can't get a Jeep to the location that answers my question. If you decide to try it by hand rigging, let me know when and I will see if I can get up there to help out.

The trick is to get it out without doing any more damage. A helicopter can do that; a bunch of guys with chains and winches might not perform as well.........

Cheers

Glad you are O.K and here to tell the story.

Lucky

I was a choker setter in my younger years. We pulled many jeeps and 4x4s outa just as bad of spots while working in the woods all by hand. The rzr is lightweight in comparison.
A few come along s and block and pulling will do the trick and yes you may need a chain-saw as well.

Take your time and be safe. Hope you don't have to go the Copter route, because of Cost.

Good Luck and Keep us Posted

Single track? Local trail folks likely aren't too pleased.

You could try to extract it with a winch chained to a tree connected to a car battery you huff up there. I'd get some snatch blocks to ease the load on the winch. They also make gas powered winches you might be able to rent. Thinking with a chainsaw and a winch you can get it out. Worst case you could get it on its feet with a chainsaw and a large come-along.

Edit: If you need a lot more juice than one battery can supply, you could also rent a small Honda generator and huff that up there too. Maybe somebody would be willing to carry all the gear for you in a UTV or even an ATV.

Glad you are OK. Looks like it could have been the end, right there....

Yeah, it was a stupid mistake, my fault, I missed the sign and the trail narrowed very quickly. I feel so stupid.

O.K. boys,
I just received the call from the helicopter people,
Its a no go, I was told there equipment at that altitude cannot make the lift.
At this point I'm still waiting for a call from my contact with the jeep club.

re: * New Mexico Forum Members Head to Durango CO ,For a Members UTV Recovery *

5 miles from the trail head, only a short distance on the single track, my brothers Can Am Outty had no problem.
Don't think we should bring Turbo Lady.
I'm going to call my Ranger contact first thing in the morning for special permission to access that portion of the trail with quads.

We will have to haul block and tackles in there for sure .Can we bring the MH with trailer to the trail head and set up a staging area there ,can we camp there ? this may take a while to get her out ?

So when is the recovery party starting? I might be able to borrow a quad from a friend to help get things in to the site.
That would be great ! i will let you know more as this plan comes together .:)

As soon as I can I'll let you and Scotty know what the Ranger said.

re: * New Mexico Forum Members Head to Durango CO ,For a Members UTV Recovery *

A team of horses or mules could pull that back up on the trail
with a block and tackel. Just a suggestion better than a helo.
Thats a great idea .:)
