Ok here is my problem. Bought all the parts needed to rebuild the front diff on my 900s got the Ring and Pinion from SATV and when I was installing it the gear ratio does not match the OEM. Called SATV and tell them the problem and they say they have never been questioned that before. We don't have an answer for you. But yes that would be a problem here is a call tag please send it back. The stock ratio is 42 ring and 13 pinion = 3.23 ratio SATV is 42 Ring and 11 pinion = 3.82 ratio. How has nobody questioned this before? what ratio is a 1000 diff that everybody is doing the front diff swap?

OK I can tell you your problem...

The 2015 and up rzr 900s base models come with a normal rzr 800 front diff. Same diff ratio as the old 800.

The 2015 and up 900s EPS versions models come with a new ratio in the front. They claim the new ratio is to help the 4x4 engage. SATV ring and pinion only works with the base non EPS models.

Thanx for the reply pizzola89. I can't believe when you call SATV they have no clue about the base model and eps one. Now the next problem is Polaris discontinued the internal parts of the front diffs so you have to buy a complete one and nobody makes just the ring and pinion after we have bought all the new parts to rebuild it.

There are lots of people in here that have put xp1k diff's in their 900S's. The '14 model is preferred since it has the metal carrier. The '15 is plastic. Not sure about '16 or '17. Installation involves one spacer and elongating one hole.

I believe someone also put a 1000S diff in, but it hung lower and hit the skid plate or something.

I wonder if anybody has even looked into the ratio's being way off tho? If we go by pizzola89 the older 800, 900 up to 2014 and the base model 900s with out EPS 2015 the ratio stock is closer to the SATV ratio of 3.82. The 2015 900s with EPS is 3.23 just wish I knew the ratio's of the 1000xp's. I know a high lifter 2015 is 3.18 but I also believe HL changed them.

Does the ratio matter? It's not a car where you have to match the rear end ratio. The trans ratios of the base and EPS model are the same. If you were fine with the 3.82 ratio of the base 900S, then the XP1K diff will either be the same, or it'll be the better 3.23 ratio of the EPS 900S. That faster front ratio must be why the EPS model is supposed to pull the front end better and engage faster. I'd bet the XP1K is similar.

You sure the HL is 3.18? I would think it would be geared the other way. 4.XX for more torque and less speed.

XP1000 front R&P is a 3:18. The ratio matters because of the operation of the Hilliard front diff (if you want stock operation) All RZR's are designed with a slight rear overdrive and changing that will cause heavier steering and potential driveline problems. My rock car has a XP1k front diff and a 800 tranny by I run larger rear tires to compensate.

Thanx this is what I was thinking. Wonder what ppl are doing when they blow out the front on the 900s EPS? Buy whole new diff?[/QUOTE]

I actually blew my front diff out on my 900s... but mine is the base model so I just had to order 800s parts.

But to answer your question if you threw a xp 1000 diff in your 900s EPS the ratio is the same.

Now If I thew a xp 1k diff in mine I would notice a difference. You deff want the faster ratio as it allows the 4x4 to engage faster and it allows the rzr to track better... it's hard to tell on anything but the snow... the rear end is always burning out while the front is not.

Plus the new faster ratio helps tire wear.

If you notice the new 1000s rzr's actually come factory with the xp 1k diff already installed. In order to put one in the 900s you have to oval out one of the factory holes... drill 1 new front hole and put a spacer for the front of the diff. It's really easy.

I put an XP 1000 diff in my 2015 900S base model. It pulls noticeably better in 4WD than with the original diff. And as stated, its an easy swap. For the little bit of extra money the 1000 diff costs over the 900 diff, its worth it for the better ratio and stronger ring & pinion. Still noisy SOB from day one but I dont care as long as it stays together. There are 2 different part numbers for the 2015 front diffs though. 1 has a plastic bearing cage & 1 has a metal cage.
