There is this old debate about wider is better as far as traction.
Many believe Wider = flotation where as skinny= bite.
This all depends on the vehicle and the terrain being driven on, of coarse. On sand you want flotation, but what about snow and ice or hard pack dirt roads? What about a smooth granite uphill? It's all about contact pressure and if it is needed and how much?
Well I can tell you first hand for a fact I can get up hills go through mud and get over rocks easier since I switched to wider tires.. I had 25" bighorn tires. I went to 26" bighorns So that made my front tires 1" wider and my rears 2" wider.. It seems like I have much better traction. I think some people think the wider wheels rob you of so much power because you can't slide the rear around as easily..
