Extreme Makeover Rugged Edition!

Rugged Radios is proud to announce the Rugged RZR build. We just purchased a used 2009 RZR 800 and we need your help! How should be build this RZR 800? Let us know what you have done to modify your RZR.

Where do we start?

• Wheels & Tires?
• Bolt on Shocks?
• Racing Seats?
• Opening Doors?
• Roll Cage and Bumpers?
• Blue or White Plastics? (it is a Rugged vehicle!!)
• Any other items you may recommend??

Of course we will be installing the latest communication package designed for the RZR.

To make this project happen and keep the cost down, Let's Trade! If you need any communications and have products that we can use, Let's Trade.

At the end of the build we will have it on display at the 2011 Sand Sport Super Show with credits to all the people who gave the input to build the Rugged RZR into a mean desert machine.

What a killer interior. The only thing I see missing is a Rugged Radios intercom and car to car setup! ;) Seriously though that is a killer interior set up, what exactly is in the dash? The lighting up is great and will make it easy for night rides.

Kicking off the Rugged RZR build Baja Designs turns night into day!! Baja Designs, the leader in race lights came to the rescue with their latest Stealth 20” LED light bar and 2 Fuego 4” HID wide cornering lights. With their easy install wiring harness it makes for a switch. This alone is a must have item!

We can’t wait to get the cage built so we can mount the Stealth LED bar. We turned it on in the dark shop and we can’t believe how much light came from only a 1 ½ inch tall light bar. Also, the two Fuego wide cornering HID’s will make a big difference flooding light in front of the Rugged RZR.

We appreciate vendors like Baja Designs working with us on our project vehicle. Be sure to go to bajadesigns.com - The leader in Off-Road Motorcycle, Truck, and Buggy lighting and performance accessories. for more information on all of the latest in race and play lighting. Or just give them a ring at 800-422-5292.

The cage is the next step. TJ with Positive Ride fabrication is already designing the Rugged RZR roll cage. Bending and welding starts soon. Keep checking in for the latest progress. If you have product you would like to TRADE to help make this RZR build happen please give us a call!!

Race seats have arrived! Thanks to Pacific Customs Unlimited two big boxes arrived with black EMPI Super Seats and Crow 5 point harnesses. I called them up and they arrived the next day. Great customer service! Check them out online or give them a call at 951-738-8380.

All we need to do is to fabricate seat mounts. These Super Seats have the same mounting as a standard Beard seat. Does anyone make an easy install mounting kit for the RZR? Please let us know. It would save us the fabrication time.

We appreciate everyone who has called and PM’ed us with suggestions and products for this build.

I would make it a white body with Blue lightning bolts striking front to rear.
, custom roll cage powder coated blue with a white aluminum top. Full doors powder coated white, Full skid plates I love Holz racing plates, Chassis Bones, Makin Trax springs and shocks.
That should be a good start.

Lets talk suspension. We are thinking about leaving the stock arms and adding a set of king adjustable shocks. Also a set of offset wheels to gain some width. What does everyone think? If anyone has done the same thing let us know.

Note: Cage started friday. Positive Ride is doing a great job. We should have a few pictures up on monday.

Suspension solved! Just got off the phone with Tony @ Racer Tech and he really knows what he is talking about! We decided to go with there RZ6 6 over suspension system. This was an easy decision after talking with Tony. He felt the 6 over would be the best duner and since we live 5 minutes from Pismo Dunes this was the clear choice.

RZR RZ6 +6" Long Travel Kit

We added a few more "Must Have" to our RZR build:

Front Cage Mounts RZR Front Cage Mounts (Roll Cage Pillars)

RZR A Piller Brace RZR Front Cage Mounts (Roll Cage Pillars)

RZR Lower Chassis Support RZR Front Lower Chassis Brace

Everything will be arriving soon so we will post pictures as soon as it gets installed.

If anyone wants to come by and check out there products the office is only 20 minutes from Pismo. We will also be at the Friends of Oceano Dunes Pismo poker run July 4th weekend. Also we will have the Rugged RZR on display at the 2011 Sand Sports Super Show.

American Rock Rods has out fitted the Rugged RZR with a new pair of shoes! We spoke to Bill @ American Rock Rods and he suggested a set of ITP wheels and Pitbull tires.

Can't wait to get these in and installed. Be sure to check out American Rock Rods and ask for Bill.

Rugged RZR Update!

Positive Ride is working away on project Rugged RZR roll cage. Positive Ride owner TJ (Travis Jecker) is head of design and lead fabricator Mike is doing all the bending and welding. I have to say the pictures do not do it justice. This thing is looking HOT!

I wanted an explorer design and they nailed it. From the clean rear bumper and the long back design it will set us apart from the pack. I just brought over the Baja Designs LED Bar, Fuego HID’s, and killer dome lights for placement and tabs.

Lots of work to go but Mike is on it. It should be wrapped up and ready for powder coat by Saturday.

Note: Need Hand Controls! Positive Ride manufactures custom hand controls. Soon we will be outfitting the Rugged RZR with disabled ready Command Control System. Contact TJ for more information. (805) 459-4409 Positive Ride Machining and Fabrication

Thanks for the info. Please send us any suggestions. We will be installing the suspension mid week. Positive Ride is in charge of installation.

We need suggestion on paddle tires! Rears: How many paddles and what brand? I have always run Scats and have had great success on my quads and rhino. Aslo on the fronts smoothies or Mohawks? Give us you feedback.

I have ran the 8 paddle scats for a year. No prob. Switched to the Douglas Doonz and the rzr seems to stay on top of the sand better. Have others that ran them and I thought they looked funny. But now that I have ran them. They are a great price and are not that much more in weight. I would deff say get some dune tires for the front. I ran my Big Horns and all it did was kick sand back up in your face and fill the car full of sand. Didnt have doors.

Endi over at Side X Side Customs just hooked it up with their HID kit for the RZR! Everything’s really starting to come along and fall into place with the Rugged RZR. We now have everything we need for lighting and couldn’t be happier! Although the lights aren’t on the RZR yet, I found some pictures showing the difference between the Factory bulbs and the HID bulbs. You can see how much of a difference there is by the pictures posted below. Check the HID lights out on Side X Side Customs website HID KITS they are also on a variety of forums. If you would like to order yourself a pair of the HID Bulbs give Endi a call at 1-818-846-1037. Thanks again Side X Side!
