Rub area clarification

Hey all,

So the rubbing that everyone with big tires talks about... that rubs inside the fenders or on the bottom of the fenders?

The reason I ask is that ITP makes their 14" rims with 5+3 (5" inside the hub and 3" outside of it) but they also have a set of widebody rims that are 3+5.

With the areas that you guys are rubbing, will the widebody rim help or hurt the situation??

P.S. I'm more so talking to the 26/27" tire guys with no lift/2" lift with spacers or without.

I'm just wanting to try and make it easier so I can order my tires/rims.

Thanks

SS212 with 26: bighorn rubbed the fender flares directly above the tire, only when close to bottoming out. Does not do it any more due to springs and also already have a wear pattern in the fender flares about 1/4" deep. No lift kit.

ahh, so then the widebody rims (3+5) wont help anything for that then... standard rims it is I guess.

rj, did all four hit the flares, and was the wear patterns and rubbing before the springs? I'm good with my setup, but I don't think most of these newer Rzr owners realize that the stock springs will soften after a few miles.
26" or 27"
Might want to "search" this topic some, as many have stated the fronts rub inside and they resort to heating and reshaping the firewall/floorboard. I've wonder if in those cases a wider offset or using spacers only make it worse!

I would think that the wider offset would not make it worse since its moving the tire away from the floorboard by at least 2 inches... and since the rubbing is on the bottom of the fender with a standard offset, the wide offset wouldnt help/hurt at all either.

*man I hate doing research.. it just makes me change my mind lol. I switched from 28" to 27" but now I saw a vid of a rzr with 29.5" tires and he still had quite a bit of space..... I think I'll do some dismantling and check out the 28" if I can get my local shop to lend me the tires for testing.
