yes you can connect the app to their group ride. If your phone loses signal though it wont work.

 

No you can’t connect your 5 button or a phone app to a v2v group ride. If you ride in a area with cell service the 7 button can setup a group ride using a phone’s hotspot and you would use your cell phone app.
I don’t have any experience with the 5 button to say if it’s worth the upgrade. You would benefit from a better looking screen, better sound quality, and upcoming updates

so from what i gathered the only way is thru the app on the phone, must have cell service and everyone has to be connected to their phone.

 

Your the only one that will use a cell phone. The 7 buttons will connect to there phones via hotspot and use cellular data to communicate with you. The 7 button needs to first connect Wi-Fi to owners phone and then setup a group ride correctly. So you on your phone and 7 buttons are used in equipped units.
