Ride Command Display Shut-Down

Just installed Ride Command in 2018 XP 1000. Worked fine after installation. Went riding last weekend and it continued to work fine until about 2 hrs into the ride the display went blank. The screen was barely illuminated with white vertical bars. Checked fuse and wiring/plugs in the field - everything good. Even when ignition was off, screen was still faintly illuminated by vertical bars. Upon return home, disconnected the battery cable and the screen went black (illumination ceased). Reconnected battery cable and started RZR and GPS appears to be functioning normally. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Can't have the unit shutting-down on the trail!

Thanks,

Mine would constantly freeze. Had to complain to Polaris, they made me go to the dealer to diagnosis even though I told them the dealer wouldn't be able to as there is no rhyme or reason and i'm pretty good with electronics. Sure enough the dealer working with Polaris engineers and they couldn't figure it out, finally they replaced under warranty. Was a pain in the ass having to keep following up and taking to dealer. The whole process took over a month. Ride Command is awesome but it still has a lot of bugs both on the hardware and the software side. I am really hoping they release a software update soon and that it corrects a lot.

I wouldn't hold my breath on there being a fix for the RC system. I complained and complained and finally got Polaris to pony up for a fix, only their version of a fix was to install a Polaris radio where my center drybox was and wire the audio through that instead of the RC system! At least I have a spare radio to use sometime down the road or sell, cause I took my drybox from them and as soon as I got it home I reverted it all back to the way it was before they "fixed," it. How hard is it to put a darn On/Off button for the audio system on the GUI and to make the 12v+ blue wires trigger the amps to turn on like they are supposed to? Why is there even a remote turn-on lead on the audio pods if the amp turns on via a signal input sensor? And why does the same system wired to a little Polaris $99 bluetooth controller work flawlessly but pop, hiss, and squeal when hooked up to their $1800+ RC system? SMH

My Ride Command, which has been working perfectly for 2400 miles, just started doing this. I had an older firmware on it to maintain compatibility with an older GoPro, but when it happened for the 3rd time in less than 2 hours today (today is the first day it has been happening), I updated the firmware to the most recent. It is still happening.

Did you get a resolution to this?

I went on-line and updated the software. I have not had any issues since software update! The only way I found to "reboot" the unit was to remove the accessory fuse from the RZR - just turning-off the ignition didn't work. I love the unit, but they do seem to be somewhat problematic. Good luck!

I did the firmware update and it still happened. Then I rigged up a switch to interrupt the INSTR circuit so I could reset it on the fly, and then go figure, it didn't happen again for the rest of the week at Moab (lots of rides in varying temperatures and bumpiness). I even downgraded the firmware again so I could use my older GoPro again, and it still didn't freeze up again.

I hadn't noticed with this vehicle but it has come up before with previous ones like my Yamaha Grizzly. It would make sense, and it's probably the reason they have a separate "engine hours" meter.

Another thing I wondered is whether mileage increases when the Ride Command is frozen up. But it hasn't happened again since I put the switch in (I've gone a couple hundred miles and a dozen hours or so since then) so I haven't been able to check. I've stopped watching the odometer so even if it happens again on the next ride I don't know if I'll be able to tell. Only if it freezes on the screen that shows the trip meter, probably.

Update: It happened again and my switch did nothing. So I got the wrong wire. I just tried again. See below.

Yeah, I installed my switch and tested it, and when I flip the switch the display turns off.
HOWEVER, after 6 months of no problems, I was out riding a couple weeks ago and it froze up, and my switch did nothing. So I think there is more than one hot wire. Maybe one runs the display and another runs the computer.

I'm going to get out the service manual and multi-tester and try again, but am also thinking of installing a 300A circuit breaker so I can easily cut the power, as a backup plan.

But right now I need to finish paving the driveway before I can return my attention to this.

Update: Just got around to trying again. The first time around, I interrupted the orange/white wire. That shuts off the display but I noticed that when I turn it back on, it does not go through the Ride Command startup animation. So it is not doing a reboot cycle.

I found another hot wire, red/white, that is always on - not keyed power. When I interrupt that one, the unit turns off, and when I reconnect it, the unit goes through its startup animation. So I am pretty sure I got the right one this time. EPS still works when switch is off.

This also means I can't use the light on the switch because it would be a battery drain, always on even when the ignition is off. This should have been another clue but I didn't think it through.

Now I just have to wait for another freeze and see if this works.
