No you don’t have to tune with just a aftermarket exhaust, but if u want performance gains out of that exhaust you will need to tune,

So is it worth the time removing that cat to lower the exhaust temps on a stock machine?

It sounds a little throatier but not very much
I would do it again on my next ride

It's not difficult. Other than needing a welder.
Make sure you mark the elbow before cutting it off.
If you want to take the time just grind on the weld instead of cutting. The elbow is inserted into the muffler and just makes it easier to weld back on

What he said. If one has welding ability then its a very easy project. My main concern was from cold start and idling to operating temp I noticed my head pipe was cherry red. After the delete it doesn’t get this hot just from idle. Obviously, riding it will get hot but I’ve also noticed less coolant temps too. It helped is all I can conclude

If we're talking about a factory-installed catalytic converter, isn't that illegal to remove? Not to mention it converts carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide and removes other pollutants from the exhaust? I'm no SUWA tree-hugger, but trees are part of what we enjoy on our rides, and excess pollution kills them.
