The state of Maine is going to be removing the railroad tracks from Oakland up to North anson/Solon in the next several years. This trail will connect to the existing trail system in the Solon/Bingham area. The trail will allow riders to unload 30 miles south of where the trail system starts now. The trail will probably take 2-3 years before it’s open.
(State of Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry will receive $436,000 to purchase a 32-mile rail corridor to be developed as a multi-use trail. This project will connect six towns in Kennebec and Somerset counties, become the main artery for ATV and snowmobile trail systems, and eliminate unsafe water crossing for trail users.)
