Just bought a used 2013 Razr 800 with 500 miles on it. Any suggestions of what maintenance I need to perform? Anything I should look out for?

I’m sure I wouldn’t be the first to tell you change all the fluids, oil, demand and trans. Might as well put a new air filter in there and grease all the fittings. I’d check the bearings, pull the wheels, have a look at the brake pads and clean everything up. Then get spending on all the extras you need to make it yours! That is a fun machine! Enjoy and ride safe!

I purchased a 2012 800 a few months ago and did pretty much what Mr. Pickles suggested. Forgot to mention the oil filter. Mine had 3100 miles and so I changed the drive belt also. Not familiar with the life expectancy of the belt but I'd at least check it if I were you. He's right, they are a fun machine.

Even though it's low miles check the belt, I just got a new one for mine and carry the old one as a back-up.

Some are suggesting using 75w-90 in the trans and rear axle. Use Polaris Original in the front axle though.

Search the forum for 800 pinion nut and have fun. :(

Yeah, pretty sure I need a new belt. Slips in high, jerky. Fine in reverse or low. Why is that?

Mobile One 75-90 or what do y'all suggest?
Yeah, I did Delo full syn 75w-90. Any synthetic 75-90 would be good I think including mobile 1.

I've read here some guys like to run 75-140 in the summer in the dunes or high speed desert running. I'm more of a cruiser and hill climber so I went with 75-90 in the rear axle. I already put Polaris lube in the trans but next time I'll do the 75-90 there too.

As for the belt, I would guess it's glazed. Not sure cause I'm new to these things too. Also check the faces of the clutch to be sure they are perfectly clean when you change the belt.

Post up a pic of the belt if you can, I'm curious what a slipping belt looks like.

You might try blowing the clutches out before you bother changing the belt. It's a safe bet that's never been done, and you'd be amazed at the dust that will come out of what looks like a clean clutch.

Does the dust cause the clutch to stick and the belt slip? Or?

I need to do this just because I guess.

I'm not a clutch expert by any stretch of the imagination. I don't think the dust causes belt slippage, but it will surely cause more wear on all the moving parts, and less smooth operation in general.

I just know that my first 800 was a bit jerky with 1000 miles on it, and blowing out the clutches smoothed it up. I knew the previous owner well, he's big on maintenance but had no idea that was something that needed done.

I'll have to try that. Mine seems a bit jerky when you try and go slow like when loading on the trailer. When I changed the belt everything was very clean looking. I was surprised by how little dirt was inside the cover but I didn't try compressed air on anything either. Thanks.

Mine is a 2014 with 400 miles on it. While adjusting the front shocks I found a small tear in the steering rack boot ALREADY. jeeez. It was clearly not torn or damaged by anything, just splitting open. Guess you should look those over all the time.

$17 on Ebay for a pair. By the price they must be cheap parts, I can't imagine worse than the originals though.... :(

So the Razr has been snorkeled, I know a tube comes from the intake and then one from the clutch cover. Where does the 3rd come from? There are little accessories accordion stops on the vent tubes? I assume that is for water proofing collect whatever comes out?

There is most likely an air in & out for the clutch, and air in for engine.

If you're going to blow out your clutches, you might as well use a cleaner and 3M scotch pad on the sheaves in a crosshatch pattern. This will remove the burnishing from the belt and give it better bite.

Good vid on cleaning the clutch from Hunterworks....

I don't like the sounds of slipping, but I can tell you from experience that jerky can be from toasting your belt in Hi range on an obstacle where you should have been in low (sand/mud/steep climb). It's not an obvious flaw when examining the belt, it's a symptom. Blowing the dust out of your clutch on a regular basis is paramount. I use a PTFE lube too, but not near the belt or sheaves.

Definitely the belt. Replaced with a Gates Carbon and the slipping, jerking went away. The belt that was on it was skinny looking with small teeth. The replacement is much beefier.

Going to start working on fluid changes next and then brakes. Brakes work but pretty squeaky.

Well, I took compressed air to the clutch and OMG it was a mess! Couldn't tell by looking at it but it was full of dust. Blew it out and gave it a test. Big difference, way smoother at takeoff and slow crawling.
