That Paraglider looks sweet, and fun

You know, I wanted a paraglider about 3 years ago when a friend of mine I ride with had one.

I asked him how safe it was and he started selling me on how he can glide down gently and he's never had a problem. Safer than crossing a street.

About a week later, I see him with a cast from his toes to his hip. WTF?

He told me a cable snapped and he plummeted to the ground from about a 100 feet.

He sold the damn thing...

:rofl3:

I have a few varied hobbies. Audio/Video is a big hole in my pocket besides my outdoor activities. Here is a pic of my Home Theater.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I have never heard of a cable snapping. That sounds pretty strange. Just like any other hobby, you get what you pay for. The equipment that I use as well as my group is pretty much the best in the industry imo and I promise you things are not snapping off. We have been accident free, knock on wood.

Just like with sxs's there are some bad products out there that can lead to stories like your buddies. Not knowing the details of your friends accident of course, but, a snapped cable sounds like either bad equipment or poorly maintained equipment or both.

Also, like any other hobby, those that push the envelope (not saying this is what happened to your buddy) around this hobby are the ones that get hurt. Acrobatics and showing off along with people flying in poor weather conditions are the biggest cause of crashes IMO. That and the famous, "hey bubba, watch this!".

Of course any form of flying has associated risks. But I believe with the right equipment, proper training and some common sense it is safe enough for most. And there is nothing like the feeling of flying!

Absolutely... people have died from slipping on banana peels, I don't know the exact scenario, just that he said something about a cable breaking. He did just fine after that but unfortunately, it made me think twice about buying one.

LOL Craig, Thanks bud. The S-10 I bought new in '96 and two years later I installed an LT-1.

Immediately after that, I tubbed it and then did all the sheet metal work on the inside.

A few years later, I built a 468 cu. in engine with blower to install on it. Though I was still doing work on the cage on the front, I took the 871 blower off and bought a supercharger to sit on top.

A couple of years ago I bought my wife a tanning salon. Last year we decided to move it to a new shopping plaza closer to home. I had all new walls and electrical done (to the tune of 25K) and the inspector came in and said that because the building had a metal roof, I had to have metal studs.

So down she came. I had a friend of mine who is a contractor come in and told me even if he gave me a deal, it would still be in the 20K dollar range to fix.

Of course, he mentioned, he still really liked my S-10.

So my wife got new walls, my friend is driving an S-10 with a blown big block in it.
