Respectfully, no sir. you’re twenty years behind. Which is what happens with myths. If you’ll do a little research, even here, you’ll find I’ve done quite a bit of research. You‘ll also find the top two frams, that’s the tough guard and the ultra guard, are presently the most well regarded and tested, filters commonly available.

you may look on bitog, or here, for yourself. here is a start. Try post #2.

in ant event, the old myth you refers to what is often called the “orange can of death”, and a cheapo filter is not this discussion.
Not a myth. Instead of reading reports and claims on the internet, start cutting filters apart and you will quickly start to learn the differences between a good filter and one that claims to be good but isn't.

But, let's be honest, we're talking about oil filters. I agree with the statement that if changed often enough, it most likely won't be a problem either way you choose.

I'll continue to use the filters I mentioned because I've cut many open and know the construction of them and because I buy in bulk to save some money and have a stack of these things sitting on the shelf.

Fram isn't a bad filter: Fram filters I have to ask | Bob Is The Oil Guy

I don't fret about this stuff so much anymore. A decent filter and proper oil selection for the usage is going to keep you running a long time.
I would have no problem running a Fram filter if it were not for the two I cut open after using them to find the media not completely attached to the can, allowing oil to flow right around the filter media.
