James, you can ride in the National Forest at Sylamore, off of Push Mountain Rd (AR 341) Plenty of places to pull off to the left and unload. I think all of the riding areas are east of the highway. But..... a crap load of trees got destroyed during the January 2009 ice storm. There are a lot of trails that are closed due to clearance issues, but it may be worth a ride over there to check it out. you will be southeast of the area by about 29 miles by road from Calico Rock. From Calico, take Hwy 5 north back to the town of Norfork. go across the bridge on 5, go another 1/2 mile, turn left onto 201 North. go 1 mile, turn left onto 341 and cross the White River bridge. go about 10 miles. There is a tiny store on the right with one gas pump. Stop in there and see if the guy can tell you where to unload. I think it is about 2 miles past that store. Or, if you want to camp, go to Gunner Pool. Pretty nice moderate primative camping. That is accessible off of AR 56, which is about 15 miles south of CR on AR 5, then right on 56 for ???20 miles. All Federal property, and pretty well marked for directions.Makin a trip down south of Mt home, does anybody know of any public riding spots around there ultimately allowing us to base camp out of Izard county, around the town of calico rock.
