My transmission had been pretty hard and getting harder throughout its life to get in and out of gear so I decided looking at the manual to take the inner detent sleeve out and see if i could get the spring and ball and see if anything was wrong. I thought since I was rebuilding the rear end anyway I wouldnt need to pull the transmission or anything since access to it is easy with rear end out. I got it almost got the screw all the way out before I ran out of room and then decided to just screw it back in and leave it be. Well after I put it back I noticed my shifter is very very easy to shift now probably too easy. I assume it probably won't stay into gear when running. I'm a little confused because the way the manual put it as long as you didn't pull the outer detent screw first it should be fine without dropping the spring in the ball I pulled the inner detent screw under that impression and now I'm thinking the ball and spring and fell in. it's 3 a.m. and I'm tired so I haven't thought about changing fluid or draining it or anything like that yet I was just curious if I'm going to have to tear into this transmission or not now for something that I probably should just left alone to start with. Any help is appreciated. Also I had the gear position sensor off when I was doing this I pulled it to see if the gears and everything was fine or if having the sensor out would make it shift easier.

Yea I had just put a new shift cable on prior to messing with it. New cable didn't improve my hard shifting. This is a 2010 so from what I understand it only has one detent on the passenger side of trany. After searching threw forums it appears I loosened the wrong bolt. The book does a real crapy job of explaining it and I'd argue it's labled wrong in the manual. Frustrating. Getting ready to try fishing with a magnet but won't get my hopes up.....

I was hoping somebody can maybe point me in the the direction saying "oh yeah I'm an idiot too I did that I was able to get it out by blah blah blah without ripping the whole transmission out" lol

You may need to flush transmission with solvent, to get ball to roll down to drain hole.

Depends on your point of view.

Line Diagram Text Parallel

That must be why the parts list descriptions are "Sleeve" and "Screw".
Makes it easier to figure out which is which.

I got it! Drained the fluid ball did not come out took the fill cap off the gearcase and I could see it sitting there in the bottom. Thank God picture I was able to get it with a magnet thanks for the help. Yes sleeve and screw would be easier. Just relieved I got it.

It's back in and good to go now it's a lot easier when the rear diff is out of the machine already. That's the only reason I chose to mess with it to begin with. It was still hard to shift when I put the ball back in so I trimmed about 1/4 of an inch off the end of the inner tension bolt to reduce the tension and that seemed to do the trick

I'm not sure what the deal was really. Over time it been getting harder an harder so I changed the cable and it wasn't much better. My guess is maybe the ball gets worn down over time and doesn't roll out of the detent so easily. I didn't wana wait on a new ball so shaving down the bolt to reduce tension was my own fix lol.
