Motor Won't Start...need help

So I just finished redoing my rzr for the 2nd time and took it out on a little trip to the dunes.

First time out I ran it pretty hard for a little bit and the speedo kept flashing "HOT"...I shut it down but kept the power going so the fan could keep running. After that I just kind of took it easy and didn't really ride it hard and ended up with no issues.

The next day I had it started and it was sitting there idling. Eventually the motor started dying down and shortly stalled out. I did a quick once over and found that the throttle cable was getting pulled on by the shifter linkage by the motor, so I quickly fixed that problem and the rzr fired right up.
I took it into the dunes and about 2 minutes in the motor started fading and again just died...

I could start the motor, but it would idle at about 850 RPM instead of the typical 1200 RPM, and the second I would touch the gas, the motor would cut out.
I checked the air filter, the sensors, the grounds, ran a trouble code check, checked fuel delivery and everything came up with nothing....eventually I just started pulling apart wiring harness plugs and once I got to the ECU plug, I noticed it was wet...so I left it unplugged so it could dry. I got a bit antsy and decided to pull out the ECU....ends up there was water in the ECU. So I take it apart and let it air dry and eventually put it all together.

Now the motor just keeps cranking and cranking and wont even start at all.

Tomorrow I plan on checking to see if it gets spark or not.

Is there anything else I should take a look at? Could it be that its just the ECU is messed up from water getting into it?

This is a fully modified rzr, built up for racing. I haven't started racing with it yet, and for the time i've had it, it has only been out in the dunes and to the track a couple times. I try and stay out of the water the best I can.

any help would be much appreciated

The fuel pump delivers fuel, the ground wires check out, and both plugs have spark....

...whats next?

Anyways, since i've been a member on here for 2 years but never posted until now, I guess I can show you what the toy looks like...

Here it is after the first build...

...and here it is after the 2nd build as it sits now...

Anyway, lets get back on track...what do I check next with my motor?

Yup, that's Silver Lake...been going there for the past 9 years. It's not much, but it's better than nothing. I want to get this thing up and running so I can go out there again and actually use it this time.

Anyways, just checked my compression. One cylinder is at 165 PSI, and the 2nd is at 157 PSI - took a few more than 10 cranks to get up there on both cylinders...that's for sure..

what now?

When I checked fuel, I only checked it at the fuel pump and at the end of the fuel line...I didn't check injectors so I started to get excited thinking that they were clogged...I left my dinner sitting and ran out to the garage....

fuel injectors are clean and working properly...dang...

what else is there?

Its got air, its got fuel, its got spark...there's compression....it should fire up but its not. What the heck

The motor internally is all stock. I only have a clutch kit, reprogrammed ECU, and an exhaust...

I guess anything is possible though.

Where is this crank trigger you speak of and how do I fix it if that is in fact the problem? How do I even know its sets right in the first place? I won't have time until next weekend to start stripping this thing down if that's what i'm going to have to do to fix this problem.

The speedo is lighting up and I checked all the fuses already.

I pulled the fuel rail off and tested the injectors just letting them mist into a rag. They were spraying, but I will get out into the garage tomorrow morning to check out the pressure they are working at.

If everything checks out, I might just take it to the dealer and let them figure it out since I will be away from home for the week for work.

Just keep the suggestions coming and i'll see what I can do with it in the morning

Know anyone else with a ECU to try?
The only person I know personally that has one is Andy over at spectrum/rzr tech...
He's 3 hours away from me.

But could it really be the ECU if i'm getting spark, air, and fuel?

Could it be possible that the water in the ECU may have caused something to get messed up causing it to throw off the timing?

Maybe I can talk to the dealer tomorrow and steal an ECU for a few minutes...anything to keep me away from having to tear into the motor if I can help it

Went to the dealer today trying to get them to loan me an ECU, but since its an electrical part, they didnt want to risk me messing it up. I guess it's understandable.

So I ended up calling Andy over at rzr tech and leaving him a message. We will see if he can get me a loaner out.

I just want to get this thing fixed.

So your going to drive 6 hours to borrow a ECU to test it? Then you still would have to return it. On top of that the dealer does have a point. There is a chance your issue could damage the loaner ECU. I'd just let a dealer run a diagnostic on it. Would be cheaper and easier then driving all the way to rzr tech. Would also probably tell you exactly what the issue is..

I'll see if he can ship me one. He's got my address, so we will see how that goes. I will be going up through that area next weekend as well, so that would be a perfect time for me to return the ECU...If he doesn't go for it, then I will like you mentioned, give it to the dealer and see what they have to say about it.

I just finished going through the exact same problem your haveing except that my ecu was not wet.
I was quadding through some mud and got stuck in some deep soup, while getting pulled out, my rzr died for a couple seconds, when I got it re-started it would only idle, if I gave it some gas, the engine would stall. Eventially it would not start at all.
I tried everything you did, new plugs, re-greased all the electrics, dried everything out.

The problem turned out to be a plugged spark arrester in the tail pipe, as soon as I cleaned it, no problems.
May be worth a look, sure glad I didn't take it to the dealer.

A plugged spark arrestor...how frustrating is that? You go through all the stuff and for it to be something like that?

I actually have a spark arrestor on mine as well. I will be home Thursday evening, and I will make sure that the first I do when I get home will be to get into the garage and check out my spark arrestor.
Hopefully it's that easy. If not, I will still need to try and get my hands on an ECU to check that out as well.

Guess we will see.

I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I get things checked out.

So i've made sure that it was all clear in the tail pipe. If I did get water in the engine and bent a pistion rod would there be any chance of it turning over? I put some menthyl hydrate in the tank yesterday and came in this morning to try it. Got it upto 1000 rpm then it shut down again. Any thoughts?

Check and make sure both fuel injectors are getting the signal to fire while you are cranking. My ecu went bad and was only firing one fuel injector. so i was running on one cyl. and idleing low with it missing and running like sh_t until I replaced the ecu. There is a wiring diagram on here so you can see how it all works but you can check for voltage at the connector to the fuel injector check both because they are fired individual I think it should be about 6 or 7 volts dc
