I'm assuming it was a trial and error thing for the natives too. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: They're either delicious, deadly, or you taste colors and see flying monkeys.
These are morel mushrooms. The steak of the woods. They're absolutely delicious, and can be found in just about every state in the US. I split them, wash the off, soak them in salt water for a few hours. To cook them, I roll them in flour, salt, and pepper, and fry them up in a bunch of butter. Mmmmmmm.....Its like the best steak you've ever tasted. They kind of look like little brains, and have a black, yellowish, or grayish top. We call the early black ones the peckerheads.

Definitely look up what you're picking, before you eat it. There are tons of wonderful edible mushrooms out there, but you really have to be careful. These morels are the best of the best!
