A group of me and my friends are thinking about making a big trip to somewhere out west. We are from indiana and so we have no idea which would be a better place to go. We would be hauling our rzrs out there but would need a place to stay. Also when is the best time of the year to go. Also any other things you can think of we need to plan for.

The group I ride with in NC have been to Paiute twice and Moab once. We prefer Paiute and always stay in Marysvale at the Big Rock Candy Mtn. We just like the more trails of Paiute and the big loops we can make. One option is stop in Moab on the way or way back. You go right by it.

You can get very detailed and extremely accurate Garmin maps for both at the links below.

Since you ride RZR's you may want to get the same maps for the Android App BackCountry Navigator. We all use 7-8" tablets in our RZR's. The maps are much nicer on a tablets than a GPS. I also have a Garmin Montana but prefer the tablet.

It really all depends on what type of place you like to ride and what you want to see.
If you like desert and true rock crawling thrills there is no place on earth like Moab.
If you want long rides that take you to mountain passes and want to cover a bunch of ground go to Paiute. Best of all is hit both.
In Utah we have a number of places with high mountain riding and long loops you can drive Paiute is really the only one people know outside of Utah. We only have one Moab and it really is pretty amazing and hard to put words to.
Paiute is a mid summer to early fall thing. As others have said Moab is March-May and then again from late Sept until the end of Oct.
So many places so little time......

I've done both Moab and Paiute, I'd say do both, they are on your way and offer very different riding. I did 2 trips to SW Utah this year, and don't forget the mountains west of Bryce Canyon, stay at Rudy's just outside the park and ride from camp. Also think about staying in Panguitch which offers hundreds of miles of awesome trails. We took our 900XP there in August and found only one 50" trail also many scenic and challenging rides. Ride right from the KOA in Panguitch (ATV friendly town). Let me know when your going, I'll join in.
