Misc Mind Boggling Codes

1037 Views 14 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  TurboWine
Have a few codes that I can't crack, along with some Side effects. All came out of no where one ride.
Power steering isn't full power, speedo not working and occasionally, the gear selector does not show what gear it's in.

Replaced: brake sensor, speed sensor, rotary switch. No changes

Any insight ,much appreciated.
Should the speed sensor have some readings on the volt meter if not connected to the sensor?

I always check grounds and battery condition first.

Is there a diagram around that shows the grounding points for a 19 turbo s4.
I glanced through the manual. But didn’t see anything.
Battery also good 13.8v and only a few months old.
You need the service manual, and this definitely sounds like a wiring issue, or low battery voltage. First easy check is battery itself, followed by charging system. If those are good, start checking all the fasteners where grounds are connected. If those are all good, it's probably a chaffed or brown wire, which is going to take a long time to find.

ETA: once you get a service manual, look for each sensor related to the codes you have, and see if they share a common grounding point...that could help narrow it down.

I think I found the issue. Not sure how it’s even running at this point.

That'll do it! Jeez what happened there?!?
Wish I knew, was running fine a few weeks ago. Letft camp the next day and shortly into the ride started noticing codes pop up.

odd enough it still runs good so that’s a mystery
Possible, but unlikely I haven’t seen any here before, and where the wires were cut, the tape was in pristine condition.

I mean, if it walks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's usually a duck

This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen sabotage. Environmental activists have been known to pound steel spikes in trees so that when a chainsaw hits it a lot of damage is caused. Sometimes fatal wounds too. They’ve put cables across trails too.

The tape wrap was pristine: that tells me someone took extra care to hide their work. Maybe it was a disgruntled or lazy worker at the factory.

we were at drag races when I noticed the issues. So I wouldn’t put it past a sore loser.
Definitely no time to re wrap the tape.
as I was near the machine all weekend minus 5 minutes or so and it’s locked up at night.
Disregard
Codes cleared after a bit of riding?

As soon as I fired it up. They were gone.
