Looking for help on understanding compression adjustment

Hello All,

I am fairly new to the suspension world, but im trying to learn as this is my first UTV. I recently bought a used 2019 RS1 and due to how worn the stock springs were and all the tender springs being flattened, i dished out for a set of custom springs from ST. I just got them installed and got my front to rear adjustment corrected after starting from recommended preloads with the rear 1/2 inch shorter than the front. When i was taking the old springs off i noticed the compression was set at the absolute highest setting on both front and rear.

Yesterday was the first ride on the new setup, i started at softest, went to halfway on the ride back to the trailer. I really couldn't notice a difference really between soft and halfway, the whoops were making me nose dive still a ton and i felt like i couldn't maintain as much speed as my riding friends due to lots of front to back bouncing on the trail dips and bumps. I was under the impression this would smooth out the rough trail combined with the new ST springs.

Best way to learn is to go all firm and ride to get the feel. Then go all soft and compare. Rebound adust the rate the shock works. Those tires look heavy. Try letting air pressure down to under 10. Try different PSI tell you find what works for you. Air pressure is the first thing to play with. To high and you bounce like a basket ball. How many miles on the unit? Springs are only one step. To have best suspension have ST rebuild the shocks for your weight and riding style.

I do plan on trying full hard setting next ride, was just trying to understand more on how to properly adjust it.. like if front is different than rear...

regarding the tires.. they are extremely heavy, they came on the bike when i bought it.. honestly would like to get rid of them.. but I've had them for sale local for 5 weeks now with nothing but extremely low ball offers.. was looking for $500 for them, which is half of new price.. They are max 7psi, i have them set at 5psi.

there is 1068 miles on the bike currently, i want to learn how to do this suspension stuff myself so i was gonna rebuild them over the winter myself. I got pricing to rebuild them from ST when i ordered the springs and it was another $1200 basically.. and after watching a few videos on rebuilding them, it doesn't seem to difficult. I am gonna order a nitrogen tank from local welding shop and set of gauges to do the nitrogen portion and start using nitrogen in my tires.

What you can't do is to adjust the shim paks to make the shocks work better. All you can do is change seals and oil. ST has the experience to change how the shocks work. They made a HUGE difference on my 18 Dynamix shocks. Strongly recommend them. My opinion is you are wasting your time and money to rebuild the stock shocks as they can be improved a great deal with different shim paks, etc.

Seems there is just not a market for used tires. Have a set of brand new sand tires. Same here, all insane lowball price offers. I think the best thing you can do for that unit is to put on better tires. Would suspect it will make a really big difference on how it rides and handles. Those should not be on a RS1 in by book. Machine is to light and tires will totally mess up the machine.

You should be able to tell a difference in compression adjustment by just pushing down on the front bumper.

Your front shocks could be in need of a rebuild, the stock WE 2.0 shocks suck. I had mine rebuilt at 1,000 miles and I’m now at 2,000 miles and they’re shot again. Same as you, soft even with the compression turned way up.
