Logic behind skat trak paddles?

Can someone explain to me the reasoning behind going with a 26" 8 cup paddle tire vs. a 28" or 29" 14 cup paddle? Ive seen some guys going with the Skat Trak Haulers and cant help but think such a small and unaggressive tire is not nearly enough for a 1k? I believe the cups are only 7/8" tall which is the same size as most paddle tires for 800's and slow 900's so its hard to imagine a 1k actually hooking up with these. Ive drove 1k's with the sand stripper HP's and Sand Slingers and they hooked up great and would still spin on demand if you wanted them too, seems like a small 8 cup paddle would never stop spinning? Any input is appreciated

if you over paddle it pulls down your hp on the hills, a slipping paddle on stock to semi stock quad or utv runs better with less cause it lets the rpm's stay up higher with a little tire slip:ride: my quad runs 3 mph faster on the top end of the long hills when I pull my 8 blades off and bolt my 6 blades on! crazy how it works:popcorn:

The question is not with Skat Trak, as you can get any roll out (diameter) tire you want from them along with any number of paddles (and paddle size). You need to find the happy medium between enough paddle to get you going but not too much that it pulls the car down on the high end.
There are so many factors that go into choosing the right tire that your best bet is to call a professional. You will get plenty of great opinions on here, but until you give someone all the info needed they will not be able to tell you what they recommend.
I run 28" STU Blasters but I am getting ready to switch to 30" Skats.
Be prepared for this thread to get long and confusing, as this is more of a Ford vs Chevy kinda issue. Lol.

I'mused to two strokes when selecting paddles but more paddles will get me a much better launch on the banshee, bigger tires balloon out more too which gives you a little higher top speed. However for dune riding you want more wheel spin and don't care about the launch so it's better to under paddle some so you can make the turns easier, because you need to rev out in the turns since you can't slow down like the 4-strokes. Gearing can also be a determining factor. So many thing come into play including the type and condition of the sand your riding in.

Height of paddle matters for sure, but so does the paddles thickness, width and rigidity. Cost can also be a factor as well. When you go to a much larger tire, your effectively changing the gearing to much lower gearing and thus you will need more paddles for each rotation to balance it out.

30" skat trak on the 1000, can probably get away with a 9 or 10 on a 2 seater. If you run at Pismo or just small dunes pretty much any of them will do. You want to race up the hills and have the best top speed in the flats then skat trak is what I'd use and what I have on my rzr. Weight of wheel and tire is also a big factor. Even with skats if you over paddle it you are going to lose the benefits of a properly paddled machine with skats. I only have 8 paddles on mine and haven't lost a race up the hill at sand mountain yet.

Huh...? Bigger diameter, leads to higher-taller final gear ratio, so lazier off bottom end due to loss of low end... Think lifted truck when bigger tires bolted on... Turd.

Skat-Trak tire combos are built and intended for running the car in 4wd that's why they do not need a lot of paddles since the front tire is actually helping pull the car. The hilliard front 4wd on the Polaris doesn't engage unless the rear tires are spinning more than the front tires so Tim at Extreme Tire tries to make sure he can try and get more r out on the front tire than the rear tire so the 4wd engages.
The more Rollout you can get the better on the XP 1000 as it will keep the car using all of its suspension and not casing out.

Not to be forgotten is the fact that the Skat Trak is also the lightest sand tire available the front tire weighs in at 13lbs then add in your wheel weight of choice.
The rears are at 16lbs. Plus rims.
The lightest weight tire and wheel combination will Accelerate faster and handle better since you will have less unsprung weight and Rotating mass that is hard on belts and the heavier tires can require a clutch kit to get some performance back.
The new Warlock 30x13x14 will be out next week and I think it should be the cats meow for this season people want wide floatation and rollout this will be it and it will be the lightest tire around.
What wheel is that?

Thats what im looking for. Thank you.

I have been looking at the scats myself I run them on my duner YFZ and i have a set or sand stars toe beat up on the local pit...but when I head to Oki I always run the Scats...I have been looking at them for my 1k I just picked up and the next choice is the STUs but I look at the weight and such and I really like the Scats...need tires on the truck first though

but it's my dune season now lol

I understand though...just curious. all the 1ks in our group are on STU with a cut type 2 paddle....they hook up good i just have not seen the skats to compare prior to me purchasing a set myself

Looking at the same setup. Curious on your feedback and the wheels too. They are very light...
thx..

That's awesome when are you planning on going out and running them. What dunes do you run and do you have some friends in camp you can compare them against different brand.
I mainly run winchester bay in oregon. I am planning on going for a 5 day trip over the 4th of july. In my group there is 3 of us with 2 seat 1k's and 2 4 seater and 3 900s. I know one guy is running stu's on his 2 seat 14 with dwt ultimate wheeles. Can't remember what the other 2 seat is running off hand. I will do some testing when I go and try and give some feed back.we tend to do a lot of tree shots, hill climbs, and high speed riding.
After reading pages and pages of paddle reviews I am super confident in the setup Tim sold me and can wait to give them a good comparison.

First off i do not want to start a war over this,I'm speaking strictly from experience.

Blasters hands down are the worst tires I've ever tested..

I was lucky enough to have a bunch of different tires at my disposal to do my own testing and figure out which one works the best..

A buddy of mine purchased the 28 inch blasters with Hyperlite wheels,,and as a bunch of you know that is quite the spendy combination.

Since I don't have a product to sell anyone this is a non biased opinion,I'm glad I was able to do my own testing and know for a fact what works what doesn't, even if I was given a new set of blasters I would not put them on my car.

when I saw his car for the first time I chuckled and asked him why did you buy those tires & wheels, his answer was I was told that was the best setup.

so just to prove a point we took his tires and wheels off put on a set of 12 paddle staggered cut gliders and it performed better everywhere then the blasters.

he was so happy with the way the gliders performed over his newly purchased blasters he didn't even want to take them off asked if he could buy them right there on the spot.

anyways as soon as he got home he put his tires and wheels on the RZR forums and sold them immediately and went with the skat tracks..

here's another comparison I ran a 1000 with a K and t turbo set of 12 pounds of boost up against a boondocker turboed 1000, set at 16psi and he was on the blasters and I was on a set of 30 inch Scats 9 paddle extremes and continuously put 3 to 4 car lengths on him every single time, proven fact scats work better than blasters.
