Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking, but when I paid $1,000 for my 4 Trail-tech HIDs, I puposely mounted them to the $9 CAST aluminium clamps from Rocky Mountain ATV:

I wanted a clamp that would break in the event of a roll over, or smack from a tree limb, rather than break an expensive light. In my opinion, if you run a billet clamp, they are MUCH stronger than cast. To me, that means I'm more likely to break an expensive light, than an inexpensive clamp.
With my quads, I've always ran my clutch and front brake a little loose, so when I wreck, they rotate on the handlebars, rather than break a lever. Loose light mounts isn't an option, if you want your lights to stay adjusted, so I wanted a clamp that would be like a fuse, so to speak.
I can't figure out why guys with super expensive lightbars mount the lights without some sort of protection, so a simple roll over doesn't become a $1,000+ ooopsie!
The guard I made for my lights shows lots of "war wounds". To me, that suggests it's doing it's job so far, and was a good idea to fabricate.
