We're planning a week plus or minus a few days of riding. Looking for recommendations. Last summer we went and spend a week in Silverton riding the Alpine loop. This go round we're looking for a area that has less high passes and more trails.

We really enjoyed staying in one place all week and riding out every morning without needing to trailer. We will have a group of 8-12 people and would like a area where we could VRBO a house.

There is Marysvale, UT. 2200 miles of nice easy trails. Great place to ride. We go twice a year for at least 2-3 weeks each.
Manti, UT about 70 miles north of Marysvale.
Stoneman Lake, AZ. Dry camping.

Southfork, CO and Taylor Park. Taylor park is hard to get into sometimes with reservations. That said they do get lots of people that don't show up. They usually have plenty of dry camping in the park.

Do the trails at Taylor park have much other than mountain passes? Some in our group get nervous on those steep passes and need a break for some "trails". I picked up a few guide books for Colorado, but it's hard to figure some of that out.

There are many trails for every level of driver. Get the book ‘ATV Trails Guide Colorado Taylor Park, Crested Butte’ by Charles Wells. On line or at Taylor Park Trading Post. They have other books and maps to to describe the trails and their difficulty. The Trading Post cabins and rv sites fill up quickly. There are many boondocking areas. Or try to stay at Pitkin to the south.

We have rode out of Pitkin and this allows you to do Taylor Park too without trailering. Lots of trails on that side toward Wanita Pass but it isn't high, mostly timber trails. If you do want to really explore you can do Hancock Pass to St Elmo and beyond.
We rented a cabin via VRBO but I am not sure it is still listed. People keep returning so the owners don't need to list it.

Keep in mind that a lot of the “passes” in Taylor Park are unlike the “passes” in the area you rode. 95% don’t have those steep sheer drop offs. Yes there are some but it’s not a continuous problem.

I agree Taylor Park has miles of trails for all level riders. Check out trip advisor, Taylor Park for more info and suggestions on places to stay

That is what I needed to know! Thanks! We ordered a book and a map for Taylor park/ crested Butte. Hopefully we can decide from that where we want to stay.

Is pitkin ATV/rzr friendly? We just booked a house near St. Elmo, and looking at places to drive into for lunch and shopping

Absolutely, just have to have a valid driver's license and please be respectful of the speed limits in town.

We're one of 2 gas stops in the area, and we have the Silver Plume Grill next door serving food. I also usually have quite a few spare parts on hand for my RZR rental business... in case you get up here and have an issue, just let me know

Depends on how your group rides, but anywhere from 2-3 hours for most people

One of my favorite riding areas is just north of crested butte. Leadville basin is my very favorite, and the trail into marble co is fantastic. When you get to marble eat at grooving BBQ it's very good.
