I have always thought the RZR was really loud but the proof came to me after riding with a friend. He has one of those 2up Sportsmens with the 800 motor. It was fairly quiet compared to my RZR.

Anyone agree these things are really loud, or found a way to quiet them down?

True story, the rhino is insane loud. I sat in a rzr and i can just talk regular and have a fine conversation.

ya my wife was driving my rzrz-s the other day and I was behind her and was quite surprised how loud the factory exhaust was....not that i mind....I sure like the sound of the LTE

Crazy Watson probably means if others can hear you, like in the sand dunes, it may prevent a collision.
My racing exhaust compared to a stock RZR, makes the stock RZR sound like its not even running. When I had my exhaust professionally built they asked if loudness was a concern. I said "no" high performance is. DB meter reads 120, but what the hell its the people I pass that need to hear it.:rofl3:

Agree with everybody about the Rhino, impossible to carry on a conversation without screaming. The RZR was fairly decent but I didnt like the droaning sound of the stock exhaust. Now unlike a lot of people I decided to go quieter rather than the deep rumble. I got the Benz silencer, it reduced the cab noise significantly and I love it. I can just about talk normal to my wife while going down the trail. They claim zero powerloss, but I dont see how that could be true since it is like having two mufflers. But for my slow trail riding it was perfect and I can still hit 50 mph with a passenger (27 inch mst and a lift).

I think I might have found a reason for the excess noise. I was cleaning the rzr and noticed I had the trailer hitch on it. Its right in line with the exhaust and is even discolored from being blown on.

I'm thinking it seemed so loud because the exhaust was resonating off the hitch. I'll have to take it off and check it out.

I never said I was riding it doosh. I was riding with a husband and wife who have the 2 up. I was obviously in the rzr since I was asking about the noise.

Not all of us are trying to make as much noise as possible. In my area the noise is part of the reason trails are being closed.

At least your posting responses that are helpful. I'm sure the members of the forum appreciate it.

I have a stock 09 and it seems louder than others I've been around. Mine seems to have more of a bop bop bop sound and it wasn't until I read these post that I realize it may be the exhaust blowing on the rear bumper cross member. The '09 exhaust turns down and blows directly on the cross member of the prerunner bumper. Would you guys agree that it's probably my issue? An S-model I seen the other day seemed to purr much better and quieter than mine.

I wish the thing had a "captains choice" exhaust like some HP boats where you can push a button and go from quiet cruiser to loud performance. I know my neighbors would appreciate that.

:ride:

A freind had the same exact problem, and yes it is caused by the exhaust blowing on the cross member of bumper. He modified his stock exhaust tip with a piece of pipe bent like an elbow to direct it away from the bumper.

yeah it is probably the exhaust bouncing off of the bumper, if you put your hand in front of the exhaust while it is running it will do the same thing. sounds kind of kool!!

i have been posting about my Custom Muffler-Silencer, for a year now, and no one wants to bite.
it brings down the noise enough that i can hear the Statter kick in and run, we can talk with out yelling at each other, and hear the Radio Playing with out cranking it up, for the people in the next county to hear. and i think it is fairly compack, where i have it mounted. and it robbs no power from the motor.
i now have, over 4,500 miles on it all ready, i got my RzR last April.
it sounds more like a big electic fan or VW-Bug.
i needed a Quiet running Vehicle, out here on the Ranch, so as not to scare all the Deer i Driver By. and i mean close to them too. some less than 20 or 30 yards away from them. they can get use to movement., but Noise,,, they never get use to.

OH YEA,,
mine does not shoot the Exhaust, into the ground for a dust storm, when you stop, or rev it up after you start it.
and a little more. i have a YouTube Vid, of one of my hill climbs, that lets you hear what it sounds like. watch the rearview mirror too.

MY stock muffler got to much water and mud sucked up threw the joints where the springs hold every thing together. i trashed it and made my own. sorry no pict. got a "Y" and 2'' pipe and welded them together. had 2 baffles that i took out of my drag pipes on my bike and welded them in the 2'' pipes and mounted it all where the stock muffler was. its now BAD loud. sounds like a one cylinder Harley

I had the dealer add another muffler on my gen 3

It's very quiet if you're not in it. It sounds like a car when it goes past the camp around 55mph but if you're in the cab the engine noise is very loud. I honestly don't understand guys with stereos... they must be runnin' 500 watt systems at 75% volume to hear it....

And yes, this pic was taken shortly after I got it home and before I got it mudded up.... looks a bit different now... :)

I wonder if some sound absorbing material could be put in the engine compartment to absorb some of the engine sound, it would have to be water proof nothing that would absorb water or dirt over time.

Their a way to contact Polaris and suggest this I bet they know what materials could be used and that would work and last in the off road environment?

My wife had me put dual exhaust on all three trucks we have owned since married. She even likes the after market pipes I've put on my street bikes including my sport bike. First thing she said when she seen/heard the RZR was "Its kinda of loud isn't it" I'm not really a fan of the popping sound it makes either. What options are there to quiet it down with out losing to much power.

I agree that on the road Loud pipes saves lives. On trails and in Parks they are just noise.

if you have watched the Vid's i have put in here, you can see what i been trying to say about mine.
tomorrow i am going to put up a hot run for that guy that wants to hear a 55mph run.
