Depends on what and where your riding. For slow uphill rough trails yes it is. But 30-50 down gravel roads not so much.

Mostly ride on gravel roads with some 10-15 mph sand trails.

Mine has 3400 miles now and 17.4 happens to be my "running average", I use the iPhone app "Road Trip Pro" to track every single tank, all the way back to when it was brand new and it tells me my lowest, highest, and my running average. The lowest I've ever had was 9.7 which was really slow rock crawling all day long, the highest was 37.1 which was a nice cool day back in the early spring when I took a leasurly 130 mile ride one afternoon exploring the scenic gravel roads in our area. We were doing some drag racing and oval track racing on the dirt track here at Sandtown Ranch not long ago and noticed that day I only averaged 11.9 for the day.
