I just purchased a 2024 XP 1000 Ultimate that had 86 miles and totally stock for my wife’s birthday present…snicker, snicker. So I need advice from experienced UTV drivers on the best quality and bang for the buck of needed accessories for our planned trips to places in AZ, UT, Idaho, and Oregon where we live. I won’t do black trails like I do on motorcycles or my wife will stress out and stay in the RV and read, nor will I put on paddles for sand. I’m clues on this thing, as my experience is with dirt bikes and adventure bikes, but my wife of 47 years doesn’t enjoy the back seat of the 890 Adventure R once off pavement.

Here’s my list for now in priority, where I could use direction please:
1) glass windshield vented, maybe Tusk fold down- not foldown? I’ve bought lots of Tusk items from RMATV for my motorcycles an had good luck..
2) side mirrors that work with windshield
3) back windscreen, scratch resistant poly is probably okay
4) street legal turn, horn, license plate kit - hopefully not a beast to install - I plan to plate in Idaho for some road use around and getting to OHV areas (no highways)
5) emergency stuff - tire plug and small compressor or onboard? I know spare with Jack is best but I want to save back space for Brittany birding who loves riding is back of buddies Ranger Northstar - also, do I need a fire extinguisher?
6) Passenger communication and noise reduction- our 1/2 mile test ride proved these things are fairly loud - is Cardo the way to go or something that works with Ride Command?
7) Tie downs. I will carry this in an ORV 27 TRX so it only has a couple of inches of room at the back before it breaks my rear patio glass - so just normal soft-ties like I have for motorcycles or something else?
8) what else,do I’m”need”that I don’t know?

I know that’s a lot but betting many of you have knowledge on some of this by experience…thanks.

Well, here's a few random thoughts in no particular order..

UTVzilla glass windshield I really love
Most any mirrors will work, just a matter of where you mount them. I have mine at the highest part of the cage, so I can see past the machine
Poly is fine for a rear windshield, and really helps keep the dust and dirt out of the cab
There are hundreds of options as far as turn / horn etc.. I bought some lighted whips for the back of my RS1 cause there's no place to mount anything, the whips have circuitry for stop / turn and reverse, just gotta wire them in.. I put mine on springs with quick disconnects
I carry tire plugs, Gluetread, a tusk C02 inflator, and an air compressor.. Don't have room for a spare or jack, I always have the winch if I need to lift a tire off the ground... I also run beadlock rims so I can drive on a flat if there's no way to fix it..
I carry 2 fire extinguishers, but then I'm a fireman.. I have one mounted on either side in the rear..
I prefer to use NC bluetooth headset and listen to my music, but there are plenty of options..
Tie downs are as individual as the folks that ride, I put down Etrack and have some Etrack ratchet straps that I run over the tires.. Never moved an inch... But some prefer wheel bonnets which might be a little difficult to get on and off in a toyhauler..

The only thing I think most everyone can agree on is, tie the tires down, not the machine... The suspension can work a tie down loose in a short time, so always the tires..

We have wonderful vendors here, that will always give you a discount if they can. @RockPeakUTV @craigstumph are 2 of them that I generally go to when I need parts or tires or whatever. There's @Wolfsnout Racing if you need a solution to the cab heat, both Rockpeak and ProUTV can get ya most anything from SuperATV, Eric one of their reps is on here daily to answer questions and hand out advice.. I'm not going to list them all, but you can go to the vendor section of the forum and see who's here.

I'm sure more folks will comment in time, but from where I sit, those are my thoughts..

Good luck, welcome to the forum from Colorado, and I forgot to mention, we love photos, so show us your ride :)

Think over your windshield choices before spending the $ You will definitely want a Vented windshield The 24 & newer models Cab can can get Quite Warm I have the Polaris Hard Coat Vented heat is nt terrible @ 20 or so MH & up with vents open at lower speeds heat is a Issue I have a little Ryobi Rechargeable Fan That Helps,Mirrors I have Sizemik Pursuit that are specifically made for use with A Windshield,Center Rear View in Kemimoto & Also have The Kemimoto 55 qt Rear Storage Box (Copy of The Polaris Box).,I have the Polaris Plastic Roof & added The B'sFab Rechargeable Dome Light looks Factory & is fairly bright.

We’ve been very happy with Rugged 696+ and headsets for music and comms. The audio quality would definitely irritate an audiophile but it’s fine for my standard and so much easier to talk. The only time it struggles is when idling, oddly enough.

Fans make a big difference for cab heat. But for me the heat is most noticeable at my feet due to the radiator fan blowing hot air on the firewall. Wolfsnout makes a kit to help but I’m too cheap to get it.

Any windshield will make it hotter. Some wing vents would be great to bring in fresh air.

Mirrors up high as mentioned (I almost went over yesterday because the body blocks most of my mirror view, and I was stupid). And convex if possible. It’s really tough seeing behind you. Getting the mirrors up helps see around those wide body panels and fenders.

Congrats on your new machine @RzrDug!

The UTVZilla windshield for you machine is had to beat for the price and has nice vents at the bottom. I run UTVZilla on my Turbo R.
This is the one:

Another product I am a huge fan of are the Motoalliance cargo boxes:

Here are the Seizmik pursuit mirrors mentioned. I also run these on my machine:

The UTVZilla fire extinguisher mount is also a great value:

You said passenger communication with noise cancelling headphones
Some of us made our own.
I used the comms from my motorcycle helmet.
Cardo G4.
Attached them to noise cancelling headphones.

Funny how Cardo has something so similar.

If you don't need bluetooth then these Eartecs are what we use now.
I got an awesome deal on 4 sets on ebay
Work great and actually have good distance.

I would suggest you look at the accessories that Polaris offers for your ride. They are all quality stuff that I purchased for my ride (same as yours), and bolt on very easily since they are model specific, Polaris did build this model and the accessories to match . Lots of plug and play stuff with Polaris installation instructions and vidéos
I made a few purchases from SuperAtv also who are great with helping.
BTW if you have a wife of 47 years we are probably in the same age group, and the easier things are, the better you can enjoy

Since I had very good experiences over the years with Motorcycle stuff from
Rocky Mountain ATV and Tusk products and especially appreciate their support videos: folding vented windshield, Poly carbon rear, mirrors that fit with windshield - had to modify the speaker housings as didn’t read it only fit with the Polaris speaker upgrade kit, bed height extender, whip mount and quick disconnect, tire repair and sidewall repair, Rhino portable air pump, fire extinguisher mount kit, tire tie-down binder kit, Rhino 20 ft strap and rope connector loop, and Nelson Rigg 25L set bag. All is installed and I am super happy with how it all went together with exception of one skinned knuckle and that I didn’t read details on rear poly until after I installed it.

Next up is:
(1)Either Yeti 15 or 22 can cooler and some type of way to tie down in rear side of the bed. I need to save the front side of the bed for the Brittany to ride on occasion then if I take extra gear in the Nelson Rigg bag it goes with Wendy on the floorboard under legs. He is bed savvy as he chukar hunts a lot and rides in buddies Ranger NorthStar bed when in Snake River area and fights for space with up to four larger wire hairs.
(2) Street legal kit. There are a lot of them and I haven’t decided which one but it will be best quality, then instruction video, then ease of install, then price making decision.
(3) Some type of interior storage that looks quality - maybe door bags.
(4) Winch. I want a rope model. Not sure which one - want it a clean install so probably Polaris but they are a bit more.
(5) Headsets - probably Cardo so I can also use them with our motorcycle helmets on KTM - but expensive guys so will take on first run Aug 15th no headsets.
(6) Trailer - grandkids are all wanting rides locally. Probably a 6.5’x14’ Iron Eagle ATV model when budget allows.

Thanks…fun times using the shop but it gets hot after noon so now need to insulate it - ouch that isnt cheap!

Thanks. So it seems that I must choose to go either VHF which is what our new mentor friends use, or GMRS which is not what they use so wouldn’t work with them - but who knows what the folks at Quartzside AZ are using. So I’d go VHF - I have to get a license so with my workload. I may need to wait until I have time to do all this.

I'm not sure what the current regs are, and I do know most of the people I know, just run illegally without a license, low power VHF in areas SXS's ride in isn't really bothering anyone else, and would be damn near impossible to track in a moving vehicle in the mountains.. I'm a HAM, so would just use my general license for HAM, it's a general so I can use any freq I want in theory, but I'm a solo rider for the most part, and don't need (or want) to talk to anyone..

The power output (watts) of the radio will determine if you need an FCC license. Two-way radios that are below 2 watts can be used license free. License free, low powered radios are used for short range communication typically 0.5 to a few miles CLOS. OLOS will shorten that range. Any radio above 2 watts will require an FCC license to operate.

GMRS and FRS are different critters, and to my understanding you don't need a license to use them on the UHF band. They won't reach very far though, and as LOS lessens, they work poorly, range being diminished by terrain

And finally, being an RF guy, I'm wondering how the dual band radios function, in theory, a VHF antenna will not operate well on UHF, and vise versa.. There are antenna doublers, but last I knew they were fiddly things..

Just rambling on here hoping you get something out of this that will help ya out.

Good stuff - I'm ignorant (that is not a bad word, it just means no knowledge on the subject) of all of this and learning. I'm looking for the easiest/best solution according to what I'm discovering are my priorities.
