I guess the XP bug is squashed... : (

I've been gathering up all my info and facts for what I'll need for an XP build. One of the things I'm getting is the Holz narrower suspension kit. My logic is that if it's only 58" wide, it'll be just like my rzr with more power.

So today I met up with a forum member that has Dragonfire's version of the narrow kit.

I drove it for about an hour and though I LOVED the power, the turning radius was horrible in comparison to my +3 kit from Racertech.

I asked him about it and he said that was just nature of the beast and that the XP's do not turn as tight as a regular rzr.

For me, that is a deal breaker. I won't give up the handling of my rzr for more power.

Can anyone confirm or deny that is the way the XP's are? I'm really disappointed. Love the power, didn't like the maneuverability.

Thanks,

Mark

It's true that the xp may push some but it is not a deal breaker by any means. It will go wherever you ask. I don't know about the narrowing kit but in stock form....and after owning the s and the xp I can tell you that I have no regrets.

I did not like the Steering on the XP. The one I drove had no powersteering and it was a bear, pushed and I did not like. That and the Reverse Chain was a deal killer for me. I will wait till they get a Rig with a Reverse Gear and better steering.

I can't speak for you guys but the one I drove had power steering. It steered even smoother than my rzr with power steering.

My only gripe is the turning radius. Jake, I would think that you're probably use to it now. I drive a 12" lifted H2 with 40's and I drive it like I drive my car. Point is, I think you get use to it.

I'll bet I clipped half a dozen trees and know I did at least half a dozen times I had to do 3-4 point turns to make a turn. Funny thing is we weren't pushing it at all.

Anyway, I guess I'll just keep my rzr. You can only drive so fast through the woods anyways.

The power is phenomenal however running through the trails, unless there was a straight away, an XP isn't going to run away from a rzr.

If you're not running tight trails, an XP is definitely the way to go. If the trails are really tight like the ones I run on, I think I'll keep what I have and sacrifice the power (which is a huge shame because it's cool to have something you can punch the gas and have it pull you back in the seat)

Just for the record, this thread was not to complain about the XP. I REALLY want one, the new suspension and the extra power, I love it.

I just need it to turn like my rzr.

I have a couple already lined up, I just have to get past this turning thing.

The rear suspension and whoop handling is way better than the S (even with up-graded springs and re-valve). You guys on the east side ride in a little different terrain than us on the left coast, so it's a personal preferance. If you came out here you'd be spitting on your S suspension! :)

Absafreakin'glutely... no doubt in my mind. If I lived on the West Coast, I would have never bought anything but an XP.

I had no idea the turning radius was not horrible, just not as tight as I would have liked it.

It would be nice to head to the other coast to ride!!!

Mark,

Have you put any more thought into building another rzr like yours with a turbo or engine swap? Then you could keep your one you have now for reliability and have another one that handles the way you want but is faster.

Once again I'm on my phone instead of riding!!!

I would too if I were you. After seeing your rzr in person its bad azz. I really need a cage like yours.

Side note: sorry we didn't catch up on the ride. We lost track of time like dumb azzes lol. Maybe next time.

So after 2 pages of discussions, no one has said that the turning radius isn't different on the XP. I was hoping someone would say that perhaps the fact that the XP I was driving with the narrowed kit made a difference.

Not good...

My XP is the first Rzr I've ever been in so I have nothing to compare it too. But I ride alot of desert and some very tight mountain trails and I've never had an issue with maneuverability with the XP, I don't see where it makes that much difference because I can guarantee you wouldn't be turning a S around in one shot on the trails I ride either. So all I have to say is the performance on the XP is WOW!

I agree but the one I was driving was only 57" width in the front.

I know there's a ton of people driving xp900's with no problem whatsoever. Perhaps I've gotten spoiled... I like the ability to slide between trees.

I wonder if the XP steering racks have less travel than a 60 wide model? The longer wheel travel on the xp they might have limited the steering more.If so I wonder if the control arm mounting point width is the same between models?Stick an S rack in the XP.

I ride tight trails on an XP4 and I smoke 50" RZR's every weekend. As someone previously stated, you use the throttle to make a 900 turn on a dime. Unless the trails are less than 64" it is not a problem.

Didn't read all the way through..but as far as I did read it didn't look like you got an answer to you question..the XP will have a wider turning radius than the 800, even with the narrowing kit because it has a longer wheel base. :)..no easy way around it really..it is what it is..longer wheel base helps handling but increases turning radius all else being equal. Try Ride a RZR 4 in those same trails and the XP will seem nimble for the same reasons.

Yeah, pretty much came to that understanding. Maybe I wasn't used to it but I really could tell a difference when I drove the XP with the narrowed suspension yesterday. I felt like I was trying to make a u-turn with an F-250.

OH, mine turns great.... RIGHT ON IT'S SIDE!!! :rofl3:

For those of you that don't know, my steering locked up in a severe banked turn with a passenger. I hit the brakes so we wouldn't fly over the top but when we stopped, we rolled...

:rofl3:

Guess mine doesn't turn all that great... LOL.

It was great meeting you and your friends/family. Hope we can get together some time.
