How wide can I make my rzr before not being able to fit through the gates. Reading to regulations it isn't really clear. It mentions disabled folks can ride utvs up to 58"

I'm lifting my le 3" and going up 1" in tire. I'm guessing I should go to 52 or 54"

A few RZR riders in our area have been discussing this topic and although we don't have gates "yet" we know they are coming soon! The DNR is well aware of the 50" rule and you can bet it will be enforced. I would think they won't give us a whole lot over the 50"s to get through. Another thing you want to keep in mind is "if" you are involved in an accident with another ATV and you are over the limit on a 50" trail you would most likely get the book thrown at you or worse yet a letter from a lawyer! I love the wide look but I'm running stock! To risky.

This is a trick question , because I have seen 50 inch trails with 60 inch gates and I have have read of 50inch trails with50 inch gates. But most of the gates I have been thru in so.cal. are meant to keep the jeeps and other 4x4s off the smaller trails, but I think 54 or 56 inches will pass thru most of the trail gates. What state do you ride in?

I have rode the National Forest at Halsey Neb. and they have a 52" wide limit. Some of the gates I had all sorts of room with my LE and other gates were at least 4" to narrow and I had to find another way around. It was very tight on some of the corners.

Here in Northwest PA they are going to a 60 inch limit for the RZR-s and the Rhinos. I havent ridden on the trails recently but they have a class 2 atv (60 inches wide) that is being opened to more and more trails.

I live in Southern Utah... The trailhead gates around Yankee Meadows Reservoir were 50". They have came in late summer and moved them to over 60". A full size ranger can now go through. They also removed the "NO SIDE BY SIDE" sign and replaced it with a "NO JEEPS" sign.

IMO its just a matter of time before the limits get moved to 60" on most trails.. SxS are getting more and more popular and are much more family friendly. They are no more destructive then a ATV. Also much safer with the cage and belts.. I don't see any reason why they would allow a 850 CC quad on a trail but not a SxS. Its pretty stupid..

I live in S. Colorado with 50 inch gates, I added the Polaris rock sliders which put me at 53 inches, I figured there was some play in the gate width, WRONG, I don't fit anymore. I see where I can mod the sliders and loose maybe 1 3/4 inches, but won't know if I fit until I take it out again.

They put 5" gates in this summer where we like to ride. I do mean 50" too. They didn't leave any room. Anyways, we've had to find other areas to ride at now. I guess this is better then shutting down all the trails.

You can run 60" width on 2 of the 5 National Forest Trails at the ANF. But the PA State Trails open to class 2 are only for up to 58" wide. I think that will change as more and more of these 60" machines get out there.

Your best bet is to check the area you plan to ride as it varies widely.

I've spent quite a bit of time asking forest service and BLM officers in the assorted offices I've been snagging maps at. In Utah, most of the BLM and Forest service managers have agreed on 50 inches as the limit for ATV trails, which is tighter than the 52 inches many of the areas were designated at a couple years ago. It's still difficult to find good maps for many areas as the land managers have just recently built their motor vehicle use plans. In the areas that are done and mapped out though, the trails tend to be open to all OHV, or restricted to 50 inch or less. As for state or county land, it still varies. Many of the gates however are still sized for 52 inch vehicles.

From what I've seen of the trails in Southern Utah, all ATV trails there are now designated 50 inch or less on the vehicle use plans, but most don't have gates, just signs that show atv, but restrict jeeps. They count on you to know what sort of vehicle can be driven on the tail.

That is great news. The goal is to keep Jeeps out. Why cause trouble for RZRs :)

All our gates are 60" too. Makes for a close call with my S, but worth it. My mud fenders are ripped up from boulders they use as "gates" in some areas. They are measured as close to 60" as they can. Think the S is like 60 1/4" wide in reality, but I get through.

When I rode in the Black Hills, SD earlier this year the 50 inch or less trail gates were a tight 50 inches. Depending on whether the trail entered on flat ground or had become hilly from erosion really seemed to change my ability to squeeze through in my 2010 LE. Sometimes it seemed plenty roomy but others I had to decide which side of my machine needed some new scratches.

When I road in the Big Horn mountains near Buffalo, WY the 50 inch gates with the cattle grill style bump seemed plenty wide for me and I think an S could do it, but many of the trail heads were limited to 50 inches using large rocks placed in a semi circle to either side of the entry. These rocks were SCARY. I had zero clearance on either side and had to line up perfectly straight to get in. I worried about my side walls every time.

Bottom line, I am really glad I bought a 50 inch trail machine. A buddy really pressured me to get an S but I'm glad I bought what I thought I'd need: a trail machine.

You have to call it quits with widening the gates eventually. First you want them to go from50 to 60. Then the ones with long travel want it from 60 to 68 so they can fit. Then the jeep guys will say why not go a few more inches to 76 or something. Heck after that you might at well grade it , gravel it and make it a county road. If you want to ride certain trails, buy some thing that fits. If you buy something that doesnt fit then I guess you really didnt want to ride those trails. I have seen it happen to motorcycle single track trail all the time. One year it is motorcycle only and the next there are atvs on it.
