Would use a micro fibre cloth as they do great at pickup and holding dirt. Wipe down with filter in place. Something like Pledge on the cloth as it also holds dirt. Brake clean I would not use as there should be no grease and it could damage the filter. After the worst is removed, then remove filter use plastic wrap or sandwich bag with rubber bands to hold in place over the intake tube, then finish the clean up.

That is what I would do. Sure others have more ideals.

 

Microfiber cloth or even coffee filters lol. No really, coffee filters have no lint.
