My transmission went down on my 2010. Polaris had paid for the parts but I have to pay $1200 for the labors. It's funny because the have a kit to replace the junk they installed at the factory but the denied it's a problem like the bad spring suspension! What a ripped???

I've heard about this 'issue'.

Forever and a day, I check for the 'sound or feeling' that the unit is engaged before stepping on the throttle. Perhaps I've been just 'skating' by ? I also make sure that the rpm is low enough to ensure proper 'shifting'. This has been a smidge problematic at times, especially when climbing a hill, or going down a hill. I've noticed that if the brake is not depressed to the max that there will be noise when droping down from high to low on a grade. On occasion I have had to roll back a bit and have found that the grinding is not as bad.

Hummmmmm.... thanks again for the info.. I've advised the powers that be 'ie, husband' <grin>

I'm really sorry to hear about everyones trans problems, and just too add a little fuel to the Fire!!!

For all of you, this is NOT an Isolated Problem. Its a known Defect in the Spicer Trans. That they have known about for awhile.

If you have a Polaris rzr 2 seater or 4 seater, built prior than the dated fix!
It will happen, your not a lucky one. Its just a matter of time.

If you don't beleive me.....Do A Little Research for your own!!!!

The saga of my Polaris Lemon

Good Luck.

PS- I Love my RZR, But not happy with the Quality,or Customer Service of Polaris.....It makes me ashamed it has a Built in AMERICA Sticker on the Back of IT. :rm_thumbdown:

My 2010 was built in January of 2010. I have beaten the crap out of it and so far, no problems at all, zip, zero, nada.

I'm a unhappy owner of the new 2011 RZR S. Less than 15 hours, 176 miles, have not even made my first payment and.....transmission problems. Yep. Dealer has had it for the warranty work now for 36 days, my parts are on backorder and they don't know when it will be fixed. Last Polaris I will ever own. To invest $14k in a machine that breaks down with such a major problem within the first month. Don't think I want to take this road again. However, now that I have pretty much spent all that I had on this one....can't afford anything else at the moment. So I'm stuck with it for a while....or the dealer is.

Hang in............... believe me, your not the only one that feels this way. If another sport option was available, I would be all over it. The Polaris BS of not fixing defective versions of parts is a bunch of $^%(#^%. But for now, its the best option I guess. Keep in mind even the expensive Mendeola trans. in sand cars need rebuilt often.

2010 Purple Thunder, no problems yet and as you can see in my avatar, I sure don't baby it.

The problem is a plastic(?) gear inside the tranny that desigenerates over time, or real quick. Mine had the symptoms less than one month after purchase...this included a burning smell, and popping out of gear into neutral. Dealer(at the time) said it was fine..just drive it. So I drove it. Made sure that I cleared the gears everytime and the thing lasted until this past May when it ground out with a friend at the wheel. She had it towed back to camp, and I jumped in, and it drove just like usual. The tranmission got louder and louder over time. I drove the Hammers with a shot tranny, and it only popped out of gear once (down hill). Needless to say, it's on video...loud tranny sound and all... 6:59 into the video you can hear the grinding.
I guess I was just super lucky to keep it going. Clear the gears. Most important habbit. :)
