How are the trail 900's?

I am thinking this is what I want, I have a sportsman 850 and then want the wifey and/or kids to come with on rides more. I am choosing the trail so that both machines can go in the same spots. I have thought about a 570, but just think after riding the 850 I will still want the speed and power of the 900... For the same price as a new 900 trail I have seen a couple used Can Am Maverick 1K's out there, but then I would need a new trailer (Mine is only 52" wide and built for 2 wheelers front 2 back) ALSO very leary of what a used machine has been through.....

So my question is simple does anyone regret getting it, I really do not want to pony up more money for the better shocks etc.. Are they that tippy? I like to ride kinda fast but nothing crazy. I do plan on putting my ITP XTRs on it and then getting some bigger mud tires for the sportsman, but again not sure.. Oh the trails we ride are mostly dirt with mud few and far between (thanks to the DNR) The more fun trails are meant for the 50" and under machines so I am hoping it will be just as fun to drive through the woods as ride....

I don't regret getting mine. I went from a 2014 Sportsman 570 to a 2015 RZR 900. I realized I kept buying more stuff for the 570 to make it easier for the passenger, more storage, to make the machine more capable....ect. Plus I move every few years so I wanted a machine I wont have to worry about fitting places. The 900 is everything I was trying to make the 570 into, but better. Plus the girlfriend is more comfortable riding lol

As far as being tippy, I cant really comment on it. I have never thought it being tippy before but I dont rock crawl or take 9g turns much. Good luck!

My buddy has a 900 trail and I went with the XC which is 55 inches. My other buddy has a 900S and so far he has been able to fit on EVERY trail we go on even when I was certain he would not fit. However I like the extra space the XC gives, the trail just seems to small with no room.

Like you, we kept our quads. We bought the Trail to keep the size within our requirements...where we ride and fitting the RZR in the toy hauler.

The Trail isn't any more tippy than the quads and for what we do it meets the needs. No regrets.

Mine does 65 stock. I rode a raptor 700 for years in high speed trails down here in south Louisiana, I still own the raptor and a bunch of my friends still have raptors and I wanted to ride where they ride. The trails are restricted to 50" wide machine. The 900 trail has no problem keeping up with the raptor 700s on the trails. It doesn't feel tippy to me and handles very well. It has enough power to slide through any corner. I have stock shocks but I may upgrade them later. I have ridden it at little Sahara in Oklahoma and it jumped pretty good with just me in it. With a passenger it wasn't quite as nimble, but that was 2 200+ lbs guys in it with a small ice chest. I would recommend the trail to anyone looking to get into a rzr.

I have a 900 trail and after a few rides in the missouri hills I ordered 4+3 offset wheels to push the track width to 55". I like my trail, but I'll either put an "S" kit on it or swap it for an S model. It truly depends on your terrain and riding style.

I ride in Michigan and after 2,200 miles I like my 2015 900 trail EPS very much and have no regrets. For my wife and I it has been a comfortable, well behaved machine that is great fun to drive and has lots of power. We have put in several 100 mile days and never felt beat up even on rough trails on Drummond island. With the 50" machine I put it in the pickup bed and tow the travel trailer behind. We are headed to Utah this spring.

Like one of the others said, it depends on how you ride. I'm sure it is not the fastest, does not corner the best or have the most clearance. For a trail machine it is about as good a compromise as I could expect.

I live in Vegas and ride alot of desert, and in the spring to fall ride 50" trails in Utah and Moab. I have a 900 trail EPS that has a 2" lift 2" spacers with 3-4 offset. I have the option to be 50" or 60" so I can go anywhere. The 900 has plenty of power. I think the Trail gives you all you need. I ride with alot of 1000k's and 90% of the time don't go any faster. Big is not always better.

I had one last season a 14 base model. They can definitely hold there own performance wise. I'm 6'2", 300lbs and just to cramped. Much less leg room then a rzr, sit lower in cab, a bit tougher getting in and out. Handled well trail riding, plenty of snort, though not as snappy as the 900 trail. Better factory shocks, springs sagged out quickly. I'm very happy with the rzr but cost me a bunch to upgrade,4.5k, but went up a class 700 to 900. I had found a great buy on a used low milage cat, 8k with some nice upgrades. If I was a normal size guy probably would still be in the ac. The Polaris does seem put together a bit better, fit and finish a notch above.

Thank you for the input.. I am 6' 260 with super wide shoulders, and too was concerned about room even after sitting in the Rzr, so if the cat is smaller, I think I will just ignore it.. I would love a Ranger, but they are just sooo big.. and I don't want to swap out trailers...

Kerbyblack,I have a 2016 trail eps and have been wanting to put the evo's on it but can't decide on 28's or 27's and was wondering if the 28's are rubbing or if you feel that your top heavy at all with stock suspension with the 28's? I'd like to go 28's for more clearence but don't want to regret going that tall. I ride in Kentucky and it's mostly tree roots, hardpack, mud, rocks and snow every now and then. I just don't want to be top heavy. Can you also post some pics of you trail with your Blackwater Evo 28's,thanks!

So decided to go sit in the Wildcat trail 700 and the dealer was pretty confident his machine was twice that of the rzr. Even said it was faster because it was 200 #'s lighter so it has the better HP to weight ratio. Anyone know the facts here?? I did kinda think they would be a couple grand cheaper, but seem to be about the same price....

For the same money there is no question rzr 900 is better in every conceivable way.

My cat had a pipe and dobeck afr dialed in by them and the rzr still would out run the cat. Add one of the tuners to the rzr, well, not fair.

Not dogging on the cat mind you, was a nice bike for what it was. But the rzr has more room, more power stock, and more power modded, accessories galore. Was an easy choice for me even when it cost me 4.5k to upgrade. As I said earlier for the same money, no contest in my opinion.

Good luck on your choice.

Soo, to add fuel to the fire, I found a cat dealer that was offering them at what I thought they would be, about $3k less than the rzr... with Eps for $9999, vs I have been finding the rzr's for $12,600. Thats a lot of accessories out the door, and I have heard a couple more issues on the rzr that I have been experiencing on my sportsman, such as wheel bearing wearing out fast.. Man, this is harder than I thought, I am lucky Can am or any others don't offer trail machines... Don't get me wrong I WANT the Rzr, but realistically this is for the wife and kids and then for me to goof around on, (thats why I do not want the 570) so if the 700 is decent, kinda thinking why not...

Has anyone actually found any good comparison reviews on these machines? By this I mean some real world challenges, not just what's on paper. I havn't been able to find a single one! No wonder it is a hard decision for some. Not for me, as I think the cat is one of the ugliest machines I've ever seen haha, but for some..

Dirt Trax did a 900 s vs wildcats sport, most should apply to the trail versions.

I have seen this episode, in my opinion comparing the trail models performance to the sport models is like apples to oranges. They are completely different animals, width, gc, suspension setup, even ecu program. I would really like to hear from someone who has had the chance to personally take these machines out (or can reference to) a true comparison (shootout if you will) of the two machines.
I'm sure this will cause some controversy between us and the wildcat trail forums lol.

Looks awesome! I to am looking at going with the evos. What brand lift and spacers did you go with? With the 28's what are you sitting at for ground clearance?Had a chance to take her out on the trails and give us some real world feedback on the additions? Very curious as I am wanting to upgrade to very similar setup.
