Why does the hose that runs from the top of the cylinder head cover to the air box have a slpit in it,this may have been asked already but I am wondering why it has the split in it,looks like a good place for water to enter the air box if you ride in mud and water,I cut mine and spliced it to take the split out of the line.

that is the crank case vent line.
the slit is for freezing climates. if the line freezes air can escape out the slit.
lots of people replace the line with one that doesn't have the slit.
