Has anyone had to replace their RZR 4 oil pan yet? My neighbor just punched a hole and we were wondering if the motor has to be pulled or if it is just a simple remove and replace.

Any info would be appreciated!

Just looked at Babbitt's .com microfiche.

Does anyone know if there is an oil pan seperate from the crankcase? There is a part number (2203301 $577.00) that says 'crankcase assembly' and was hoping for my neighbor's sake that that is not what has a hole in it.

Lemme know pleez, THX

Is the hole small enough that you could drain the oil and weld it?I just looked at the shop manual and it dosent seem like you just have a pan ,it seems like you split the case and at the bottom is were the oil chamber is not sure ,good luck

Hey Grant ...........

Sorry -- No oil pan. Motor has to be pulled.

I'm happy to come over and we can pull it.

E-mail or call anytime.

I'll keep lookin' into this for now and let him know what's up.......

THX All!

How did he do it? I remember recently someone had that happen, can't remember if it was an reg RZR or a 4 but a rock got a lucky shot through one of the holes in the stock skid and took out the pan. I think his ending up with engine damage from oil starvation and insurance paid to fix it..
If he has insurance and it was something like that..and he isn't 100% sure that he didn't starve the engine of oil it might be best to at least get an adjuster to look at it before even messing with it...a new engine can get pretty expensive..

Here's an update for any of you that may want to learn from this costly mistake.

A week or so ago, a neighbor and I were on a trail ride and he allowed his 74 year old father in law to drive his RZR 4. He gave him the quick run down, blah blah blah, don't hit rocks, etc.

Well, at around 5 mph, he hit a rock about a foot and a half tall. It was a buried rock, so there was no give.

It crushed in the front left lower A-Arm and then must have bounced the RZR up, and then the crankcase landed on the rock. Yes, it punched a good size hole in the lower half.

After doing the research (many thanks to all of you, especially Sparky who volunteered to help us with the R&R of the motor), my neighbor decided to hand it over to AZ West (local popo dealer) and just bend over (cost wise).

A few facts I learned through the research:

-It is NOT an oil pan, but a lower case half.
-Replacing the lower half necessitates the replacement of the upper half (match sets)
-Motor does have to come out
-Parts = appx $2500
-Labor = appx $900
-Downtime = Priceless (Just kidding, about 2 weeks).

My lessons learned. Don't let anyone touch or drive your stuff if they can't afford to buy their own or fix yours (I was burned in a similar manner), and if you ride the kinda stuff we have in AZ (high speed trails/washes with rocks scattered) get a UHMW skid plate!!!

I've never bought into the whole "protecting my RZR to death" thing, but I do think an upgraded skidplate is in order for me and my neighbor!!!

Careful out there everyone!

Rock went thru a RZR 4 oil pan / case...

Ouch! for that kinda $$$ you could buy a "S" engine that someone has removed for a swap out.......the going rate is 2k I have even seen them go as low as $1700 ..........it's only a days work to swap out the engines........Dave is a great guy to have close by, I bet he could have you running in less then a day......I hear he has a weakness for ice cream :)

IF I may add, It's so hard to find a good shop to do the work right also.
Very true..that is why I don't let any of the dealers work on my stuff if it is on my dime. If I don't know how to do something I look in the shop manual, research here, ask questions and do it myself. That way at least I know what was done..and if I do it wrong and it fails I have no one else to blame:rofl3:

A good skid is a must! And cheep insurance for sure:ride: IMO the 1/2" UHMW from FUTV is the only way to go. I have a couple thousand hard miles on mine and have done several trails in Moab where at times your on the skids more than the wheels and it still looks new:ride:

George, where did you buy your UHMW skid? I am hoping you bought somewhere local as to avoid shipping charges on it. I might go there when in town for work.

Gary: excellent point and I did tell him that........let's just say retirement has been good to him and money isn't an issue. He wanted to go the full warranty route.

Biggest problem we/he faced with this issue: too many options.......:scared2:

Hey Grant,
I ordered it from Factory UTV. They are vendors on the Forum and offer a discount to members:ride: They are located in Sacramento,CA. I don't remember what the shipping was but it was reasonable.
