I am looking at buying a couple of sets of 55W HID's from DDM Tuning. I have read a lot of posts regarding the HID's and the color options. I am curious if someone has an actually tested the 55W bulb in 6000K and 8000K, side by side, to compare color.

It seems that there is a lot of opinions and theories floating around. But nothing concrete saying that one or the other is producing the whitest light. I have seen the color charts posted, but again, not a real world comparison.

So, have any of you actually compared the two colors? Pictures?

On a side note, a 35W 5000K and 6000K would be nice to see too.

What do you want in lights? Some people buy 6-8k lights because they think the bluish white looks cool. Some people think the whitest light they can get is the best. In reality pure daylight is best for your eyes and the easiest to see with. Pure daylight is around 4300-5000k. Most off the shelf kits use a 6k bulb. From experience the color isn't that blue, it really is almost just white. After using 6k bulbs for a couple of years I have just switched to 4300k because it is easier to distinguish terrain IMO. Look at all the people with 6k bulbs on their rides spending money on amber lightbars to cut through the dust and to distinguish terrain better. Just buy 4300k or 5k and be done with it you will be very happy with the light or buy another set of bulbs to test for yourself. They can be bought on ebay for 12 bucks shipped.

Keep in mind everyone as noted on other threads that 35w and 55w lights do not have equal color temps. Ex. 5000k in a 35w is a different color than 5000k in a 55w. So before talking about temps make sure you note the wattage.

I posted a thread recently showing two seperate video's of the 5K temp bulb and the 8K temp bulb while using the DDM 55watt kit..... The 8K bulb is pure white. You can't compare the 35watt kit with the 55watt kit. The color comes out totally different.

8K Bulb - watch the whole video so you can see what color they are when fully warmed up.

Thanks so much. This is exactly what I was asking for. Unfortunately, I placed my order last night and guessed at 6000K bulbs. In your opinion, do you think the 6000K's will be white? I do not like yellow at all and i'd rather error on the side of blue. I'm sure I can still call in and get my order changed if needed.

Glad I could help. I'm not sure how the 6k are going to look. They might look pretty good. Different color bulbs are only $12.50 for a pair From DDM. At that price I thought about getting a third pair....!

I went ahead and gave them a call this morning. The guy who answered assured me that the 6000K will be white. So, I left my order alone. I will report back once I get them installed.

I ordered the 55w 6Ks because if you look at the color chart and read what DDM has to say about the 55w bulb washing out the color some, the 6Ks should be bright white, whiter than the 35w 6Ks, which is what most people run when running 35w bulbs.

Also, the 5K is the whitest on the color chart and more recognizable to the human eye so if the 55w 6K bulbs wash a bit toward the 5k bulb color, there's no loss in light. Blue hue causes a loss in light.

I'll have to give DDM Tuning and FedEx some huge props. I ordered two sets of lights late Wednesday night. DDM emailed me a confirmation immediately. Got the shipping confimation at 4PM on Thursday with a tracking number. Immediately checked the tracking number online, but FedEx did not have information on it yet. Rechecked the tracking number Thursday night and it said it was in route and would be delivered on Tuesday. So, I though, wow, that was pretty quick. Well, to my surprise, FedEx dropped off the light this morning (Saturday) at 9:15AM. I could not believe it. So kudos to DDM for getting them out so quick and FedEx for being ahead of schedule.

Unfortunately, my day is busy and I won't get to them until tomorrow:( But when I get them installed, I will do a side by side comparison with my Rhino that has 35W 6000K bulbs.
