Help me choose between some used RZR machines

Okay, I have decided to get a 50" RZR so I will be able to use it on ATV trails as well as other roads out west.

I've had a 2007 Ranger XP for the last 4 years and it was a good machine, but being 60" kept it out of quite a few places I wanted to go. I listed it for sale on Craigslist last Sunday night and I watched it drive off with the new owner before noon on Monday.

I've been looking hard at used RZRs all over Texas but there aren't a lot of 50" models since there aren't many 50" trails around here. I'll be hauling it to Montana, Wyoming, etc. to use it.

With that long introduction, here's where I'm at. I'm looking really hard at 3 different machines, all about a 2 hour drive away and of course in 3 different directions.

The first is a 2010 800 LE black that has a roof, winch, bumper guard, rock sliders, new 800S seats, and a 2" lift. It has 1,800 miles on it and from the pictures and talking with the guy it is in good condition. My biggest concern is that with the lift and some new tires it is over 50" wide. More like 54". This will fit through some 50" gates, but not through some of them. This guy sounds like he will take $6,500 for it. Here's a link to the craigslist ad - 2010 Polaris RZR 800

The second is also a 2010 800 LE in gold. It has a roof, some storage bags, and a winch. It doesn't have a lift and is 50". It has more miles (3,300) but sounds like it has already had some maintenance taken care of with replacing some bushings, springs, etc. Not sure I can get this guy lower than $6,800. Being at 50" without having to worry about it is nice, but at the same time, the 2" lift would get me more clearance if I can fit through the gate. Also I don't really like the gold color. The last one is something I wouldn't have considered, but reading this forum there is a long thread discussing the benefits of the 570 vs the 800 and there is a 2013 570 for sale that is barely used. 140 miles on it. Of course he wants more for it, I think he would take $8,500. It has a lot of "blingy" options, but doesn't have a winch so I think that would be a must buy when I got it. The other options are nice, but not sure I would buy them if I was starting from scratch. Most of my intended riding will be on trails at low speed so it sounds like the 570 wouldn't be a bad option. He has upgraded the wheels and it is 52" wide, but he still has the stock wheels so it would be easy to switch back if I ran into some trails with some really tight gates. Here is the link to his ad - http://odessa.craigslist.org/snw/5224159159.html

Of course all things being equal I would love to buy a 2016 900 trail EPS machine, but I can't justify it for the 2 or 3 times a year I'm going to have this up in the mountains riding trails. I do live on 60 acres and can ride around the house, but I only put 300 miles on my Ranger in the 4+ years I owned it.

I can afford any of the 3 machines I listed and they all seem like decent deals to me. All seem to have pros and cons. I would like to pick something up to take hunting with my toward the end of next month so I don't think I have too much time to pick and choose.

Thanks for any input you can give me to help make my decision.

To start with in MY experience the 50" gates hasn't stopped me but twice in many miles and trips. We have a 2012 XP 900 and that is I think, 64"s wide. There is always another trail nearby to enjoy. From what I have read, it`s a bigger deal back east but not worth worrying about in my opinion here in the west or my area in SW Utah. I am sure a 570 will do the job but the power of a 900 must make it more fun. Another huge factor for me is power steering and we like a roof. Keeps the sun off ya.

Thanks for the comments.

There is a gate on a big 17 mile loop that we ride that a friends 2015 900 trail EPS fit through with a couple inches to spare on each side. I hauled my Yamaha Grizzly 450 ATV up there because my 60" Ranger for sure wouldn't fit. I plan on hunting off that trail this fall so that's why I'm wanting the RZR. I could use my ATVs, but with 2 of us the RZR would be much nicer. With the RZR it is going to be hard to justify keeping 2 ATVs as well, I probably need to sell one.

The 2015 900 trail models sure are nice, but I just can't get there in the justify the price scenario. None of the dealers around here have any trail models sitting around anymore and they want pretty close to list (plus charges and fees) for a 2016 trail model. I just don't see myself going much over 40 mph anywhere that I ride and the older 800 and the new 570 will both handle that pretty easily.

I'm looking at less than half the price of a new 900 trail model buying one of the 2010 800 LE models that I'm looking at. The 2013 570 just seems like a good deal because of the super low miles on it.

The 570 is smaller but the newer technology is up to par with the 800 in speed and thrill factor. I would buy the 570 bc of the lower miles assuming it is clean.

A white lighting 900 you can get for around 12k. If you put the money down you were going to spend on used and finance the remainder you will have a machine that will give you countless smiles. They are impressive and the 570 and 800 are no where near the 900 in anyway.

Sorry don't mean to make you spend more money but just want to make sure you don't have any regrets

Well, it looks like I can get the 570 with 140 miles on it for $8,200. Seems like a pretty good deal for a practically new machine with close to $2k of bling added. I may swap back to the stock wheels and sell the new ones and use that money for a winch. Very strongly leaning that way.

I sold a 2010 800 LE for $8500 in AZ to a guy in CO. Had Polaris split windshield and the winch, something like 200 hours and 2200 miles. I had it for less than a year and put maybe 400 of those miles on it. So the prices you are looking at are in line.

One thing to remember these dang things are money pits! Once you have one you spend a lot of time figuring out what else you can hang off of it! If all the bars are already covered you will spend less in the long run.

I like your idea about the newer 570. All my buddies told me I should have bought a 900 rather than 2014 800 S that I did buy. But I don't need another 20 MPH anyplace I ride. That said, though, had I waited only a few more weeks until the '16s starting shipping I might've could've bought a used 900 for just a few dollars more. But my wife tells me I have to stop looking at the next thing and be happy with the current. I think she's talking about the RZR but I don't know for sure...

My 570 has taken me through stuff a billy goat would think twice about. I have 4000 miles on mine and very few problems. So yea, I say go with the 570!

Thanks for the input everyone.

I'm headed down to Odessa to pick up the 2013 570. Pretty hard to beat 140 miles.

I did price a new 570 locally and the local Polaris dealer won't move off MSRP. The most I could get them to budge is not charging me delivery and prep fees.

With the add ons and $2,000+ off MSRP for only 140 miles on it I think it seems worth it to me.

I think any of the options I've been looking at are going to seem very quick compared to my 2007 700 Ranger.

You will not be sorry that you bought the 570. We have both, a 2010 800 with 5K miles and a 2013 570 with 1500 miles and the 570 is just as capable as the 800 in every way.

You are correct about those gates and just so people know, there are many 50" gates out west and the US NFS law is very explicit, "any trail designated as an ATV trail is restricted to 50" machines, even if not gated." You ride on the FS trails in our neck of the woods and you WILL encounter a Ranger with a tape measure, sometime during your ride. The fine is in the neighborhood of $275, plus court cost. Just rode a trail on the southern end of the Paiute Trail system and the gate actually measured 49", not 50".

My brother in law and I were both looking for used RZR's a couple of months ago. We decided we wanted used 800's. I found a couple of blogs that mentioned that any 800's before 2009 manufacture date had problems with the transmissions. A lot of 2010's were manufactured in 2009. So we bought used 2004's. NOTHING wrong with 800's. BUT a 570 has almost identical power to weight ratio, and tremendous fuel mileage. I'd CERTAINLY get the 570. You won't need anything more. Ted

Took it out for a spin around the property this afternoon. This thing is fun!!! Very different than riding around in the old 2007 Ranger. Very peppy and feels so stable on the corners.

Here's a picture of it with my son standing in front of it.

I think this is going to get used a lot more than the Ranger did.
