Anyone run a heater like a firestorm with a open cab? If so is it worth it or would I just be wasting money?

One thing I did just last night was install my heated vest from my Harley. I just hooked up the plug in connector on to the battery and plugged my vest into that and went for a ride. I let my girlfriend wear it and she loved it. We have a half windshield, fabric top with a Tusk vinyl/ fabric rear window and the temp was in the upper forties. She doesn't do well with cold weather at all and she was totally happy. I got the heated vest on sale for $129.99 a few years back.

Hmmm, I'd be scared of that getting tarp/blanket getting wrapped around an axle or caught under a wheel and getting a leg ripped off. That's just me tho.

I'd take what heat the heater could put out with whatever configuration you have. If you get cold slow down or stop and let the heater warm you up a bit. We used to have to do that in my old Jeep.

Jeep guys have been doing this forever!
Basically heater in a Jeep or boat is nice you can warm up your hands and feet, but heat rises....so.......

Better off with a heated seat, some12V heated socks and some heated gloves IMO

My wife has heated boots.....I decided to get heated socks so I can wear any boot I wish nothing like plugging into your snowmobile and being WARM!!

You shouldn't need heat at 45*. That's a heat wave here in Idaho this time of year. I do 75% of my riding in the winter months. A tarp draped over your legs (trailer trash way of doing it) just won't cut it at -10*. Just do it the right way and just buy the full enclosure. You have to pay to play.

When it gets that cold and snow on the ground I normally just use the rzr to plow and ride the snowmobile but I was just throwing this out there to keep the ol lady happy

No they don't. If I did it again I would have went with a different door and would've considered a door that had a upper that I could get for it.

I tried it and it was just heating the outside.

We made a cover for the rear of a 4 seater to cover the back with seats or a rack in there. When it came winter time I put on the canvas Polaris upper door system and decided when it was really cold (0 F + wind chill) I dropped the rear cover down to the floor boards. It held heat much better without having to heat the whole cab.

what the cover looks like.

Now I can plow all winter and be warm since it starting out looking like its going to be a bad one.

Maybe I am weird, but I have a heater with an open cab and only got the heater for the defrost feature. My Firestorm works great for that. I dress for the weather and tough it out if I need to. I am an old man, so maybe some of you young kids need to toughen up a little. lol. Ride safe, ride insured,

Forgot to update with my cheapo seat cushion heater review..

Unfortunately, No RZR time has come my way in the past 3 weeks, so I've been using the seat cushion in my truck. Its a leather with no seat heater.
It has worked amazingly well in its intended roll.
Has a high/low/off switch. According to the instructions, it only heats when there is weight on it, pressure sensitive,
so that it wont overheat when no one is using it. Also times out after an hour.

In the vehicle with jeans and a coat, after about 20 minutes, I can't take the high setting, too warm. So in the RZR, it should work great.

My only issue in the vehicle is that its thick enough to raise my seating position higher than I would normally sit in my truck.

All in all, it should work great in the RZR
