Grumpys mod - Pirate style

I've seen another post on Grumpys mod, putting an air filter on the front of the bed to aid in keeping dust out of the air canister intake. I bought the filter, a K&N 33-2143, more than a year ago and never got around to installing it. But, it's Winter and I'm in the midst of doing projects and thought I would share how I installed my filter. A couple of notes, I'm now using a Vent Racing - Donaldson filter and thus don't need the air intake hole in the air box. I have run my valve cover breather hose to the air box. Thus my filter is to keep dust out of the clutches and off my breather filter.

The inner and outer plates were cut on my PlasmaCam from 10 gauge steel plate. My effort was for the inner plate to be bolted to the bed and hold the filter in place. The outer plate then fits over the filter and is attached to the inner plate with four screws, thus squeezing the filter slightly and keeping it in place.

I'm not posting it here, but I have designed a 10 gauge steel plate that goes under the Polaris air box and eliminates the air canister hole and seals the gap where the bed overhangs the frame tube. Thus sealing the air box. I use 2" wide aluminum tape to help hold the air box to the steel plate and seal any gaps so that air has to go through the K&N filter.

The first three four images are Autodesk Inventor drawings showing the hole cut out of the front of the bed, the inner and outer plates and the whole thing assembled.

Here are three views of the filter installed.

I've started the RZR and all seems well, not much noise and looking forward to keeping the clutches clean. I can't believe how much dust I blew out of the Primary Clutch!

Thoughts?

So, are you planning on selling some of these. Was just out on a ride and my clutch was slipping from all the snow getting sucked up with tracks on the RZR.
