Good news from S&B

I emailed S&B about my fender mounted particle separator and I got this response….

Upgrade Program for the Particle Separator V2 (Fender Mounted) for Pro XP
While the Pro XP Fender Mounted Particle Separator meets the dust separation percentage that we advertise, customers still want the exceptionally clean air box seen on the roll bar mounted unit. Thus, S&B has redesigned the fender mounted Pro XP Particle Separator and has subjected Version 2 to extreme field testing. This new unit provides better separation of dust, snow, etc and is significantly easier to install as it comes pre-assembled from our factory.

If you have the first version of our fender mounted Particle Separator and are not completely satisfied, we will gladly upgrade you to our new model at no cost. We expect to start shipping V2 at the end of March 2023. The install is simple as you can use the same wire harness currently installed on your vehicle. To apply for this free upgrade, simply purchase this new design (part # 76-2020) on our website and return your existing unit (housing only as you will re-use the wire harness) in the same box with the Fedex Label that will ship with your upgraded unit. Your credit card will not be charged until it ships. Once we receive your original unit back, we will credit your credit card for the full amount of your purchase. Please note that those getting the no cost upgrade, will need to utilize the wire harnesses from your existing unit; otherwise, the new unit will not be functional. The upgrade program ends Dec 31, 2023.

Still a bad location in my opinion.
I’m withholding judgement until I see how it performs. You should too.

I'm glad they are backing so many complaints but moving your intake lower near the tire would seem to cause too many issues mud, rocks, and all that fun stuff flying all over it. A buddy of mine with this model found grass in his filter mesh just running around in the field with the upgraded gasket and lots of back and forth with s&b even with the new model I'd still be concerned.
You understand that the intake is near the same place as the stock intake, right??

Oh yea my bad stuff was goin threw the gasket in the wheel well
WOW! S&B finally admits there is a problem with the fender mounted unit! It took 8 months for S&B to basically exchange my fender unit for the rollbar unit. S&B kept insisting my factory airbox was the issue and that only one or two others were having issues.

It's good to see S&S admitting there is a problem with the fender unit. If you still have the original, I suggest giving this a try. After all it won't cost you a dime, just your time. And you might get a product that works.

Yeah… that was kinda abrupt. Not my intention. My apologies to Coloradoroots. I don’t want to come across like the moderators do. I try to be more respectful and less condescending than that.

Eric,

i have followed your epic story. I am impressed with S&B’s commitment to customer service, but I was frustrated with what seemed like their effort to push a rope. I’m sure your case was a driving factor in the development of the V2.

I was getting the same story as you… “it’s the airbox’s fault”. I told them that I had made heroic efforts to seal the box and I didn’t believe that was the problem. I told them if the airbox was inherently defective, they would be selling an after market version. They didn’t even comment on the point. Rather, they just offered up the V2.

I’ve already ordered mine. I’ll be cautiously optimistic. I hope this turns out good.

Good Info, Thanks!!! I gave up on calling S&B over and over only to be told it's an air box issue. Last time I called they sent me out a race harness. All that did was make the particle separator louder. Did nothing for dust / dirt.

I wonder if the S&B particle separator for the Pro R is like the V2 or is it like the original. I guess a better question is does anybody know if the fender mount particle separator from the Pro R works?
I wish that they would offer the roll bar mounted separator in exchange for the wheel well mounted unit. Either way I am going to exchange mine as it has never worked like it is suppose to. I have called and emailed S&B so many times that I finally gave up on ever getting them to exchange it for one that actually works like it is suppose to. I pulled my air filter yesterday and found so much dust, dirt and other crap in it after only three rides.

I suspect I did have something to do with the V2. What I find interesting is when S&B finally stopped working with me. They told me the fender unit was working as designed and would be no further development on it. At the time they were developing the fender unit for the Pro R and all effort was going into that.

I watched the video S&B did on 'field testing'. There was a comment about lab testing I found interesting. "S&B believes in lab testing but this time they did actual real world field testing to". Shouldn't field testing be part of any development? It's like they alluded that this was the first time S&B actually put the fender unit on an Pro XP and actually drove it in the dirt/dust.

I think it's a good idea to get the V2. It's not going to coast you anything except your time.

I also got the "race harness", It didn't help at all either.

they do make a roll bar version for the pro , if i get another one , thats what i will , sold my v1 for 200 bucks
I just sent S&B a message about this upgrade program and asked if they would replace the under fender unit with the roll bar mounted unit. Like ericB I have been back and forth with S&B about my under fender mounted unit not working as advertised. Now my under the fender unit was one of the first generation bunch. They did send me the parts to upgrade it to the next generation unit but it still doesn't work as well as the three roll bar mounted units I had on my past machines. Not sure how this new version will work but hopefully better than what they sold us previously. I would still rather just have the roll bar mounted unit. Either way I am going to replace mine with whatever I can get from the them for free.
