2013 800 LE
Has there been a history of many failures with this front dif sprague carrier OEM Plastic part.
I have 2500 miles of rough trails on my ride and don't want to break 40 miles from the end of the road.

Super ATV has a HD Aluminum with rollers for $250 but don't want to shell out the cash if this has not been a major issue with these models.

I already replaced the rear dif once and have locked up the new pinion nut so that won't happen again. No fun that day....had to be towed 12 miles through 10" of snow with rear locked up.

Comments please.

The 2013 800 should have the zinc metal sprague. They are better than the plastic, but not as tough as the billet spragues. I have no idea how many people have broken the zinc cage, I know mine still has the zinc so far so good, but I dont beat on mine hard. I keep planning to upgrade to billet, but seems something else always takes priority. But more than likely if the zinc cage breaks, its gonna destroy the diff along with it. Kinda like the pinion nut on the rear diff, by the time you know you have a problem it's already too late!

The new Super ATV Sprague carrier is "hardened aluminum" per their info.

I'd think that might be one of the best out there at this time...

And yes, every year and model RZR 800 can have this problem due to the material used.

So let's get this right , when the front Metal sprag goes it takes out the front diff with it.wow is it ever going to end ? Should I get a real good on so it doesn't break or a cheaper on so when it goes it doesn't take out the diff if that's what they do . Sorry for hyjaking the thread
Well as I said above, I have no idea how many or if any have broken the zinc cage, but more than likely someone has! Alot of the time breaking a plastic cage can and will fake out the rest of the diff also. About the only time breaking a cage and it not doing major damage is if it breaks into big pieces so it still holds the rollers close to where they are supposed to be in the 1st place. My thoughts are if the zinc cage breaks, the cage itself is gonna do damage to stuff to, it being metal. If you break a billet cage, I doubt it will be the cages fault, more than likely the diff exploded because of another problem. So there is no way I would ever consider putting a plastic cage in my diff! Unless I was wanting to break it! As I said before my zinc is holding up, knock on wood, but I do want to and plan to upgrade it if I dont just blow the diff before I get around to it.

Thanks clothie sounds like either way shit gunna happen .mine is a 2014 haven't had problems yet .just try to up grade things as I keep reading on this great site before it cost eny more money .just trying to make things better.i just whent through a episode with my belt blowing and taking out a crank seal so I feel a little bit negative towards poopy right now.seems like I'm always wrenching

Hey I understand, mine is a work in progress. Fix one thing, find the next weak spot, fix that and so on. I may be wrong but I think you belt taking out your seal was kind of one in a thousand thing, at least I hope so! I was wondering if there was anyway to maybe put a piece of aluminum around the crank there bolted to the block behind the belt housing to keep the belt pieces from even getting to the seal in the 1st place? Only downside I can think of would be belt dust getting in behind it with no way to get back out. Just a thought.

My thoughts...

How is it you're driving your RZR to the point the belt fails? That's got to be pushing the limits of the drivetrain isn't it?

Get a Team Alba Racing CVT/belt temperature gauge and come to understand what get the temp into the red...and learn to back off when the temp does get that high.

And lastly, think about getting a "blowhole fan" to help move more air thought the CVT and keep the belt cool.

Just thoughts...

Fully understand what u mean pirate ,if I new when my belt was go ing to go I would stop . I will say this it was a fun long weekend in the snow so I can a amagine belt temps were high so my next thing will be a belt temp gauge I also think poopy makes a shield for there snowmobiles so this samm thing don't happen and how come it always comes down to riding and maintain,i work on golf course aquipment all day long so I now lots about maintaining .not realy upset belt blew just frustrated it took out the seal . all failures on my machine have been because of me just not happy with all what has been going wrong but it can only get better and getting real confenent with tearing apart my machine

Yup, we have to pay for our fun!!

The key is to learn what causes problems and then either stay away from that condition or find a fix!

Having had my CVT backing plate off a couple of times, it seems a bit difficult to understand how the seal got taken out. I guess just a large section of belt, not shredded, so still rigid got jammed into the seal at terrific speed and did in the seal!!

A part of me says to look carefully at the CVT inner plate and the Primary clutch and see if you can't fabricate something to reduce the size of the opening, thus reducing the exposure of the seal.

Just a thought...

That was my thoughts also. I managed to get my belt wet for the 1st time yesterday, not bad considering I've been riding it for 2 1/2 years. So I plan to see if I can fabricate some kind of guard to keep from ever having the same problem Flowmaster65 had while I have my belt housing off resealing it good.

And sorry Norm, I didnt mean to take this thread off of your diff sprague questions.

Yes pirate the key is to lurn I and lur end everything from this great site thanks to all for all the great tips machine is starting to become more reliable I will say . And yes a peice about 1/2 in wide and maybe 6 to 8 in long got wedged I there and I'm sure that's why it happened it was also a gates carbon belt .we picked at it for some time before we got it out .in the futer I will be carrying my clutch tool with me in my tool bag. I'm sure it would be way Easyer to tack the clutch off to get the broken pieces out and maybe save the seal. I'm will also get the gauge for my next fix what temp should I start shutting her down at before belt damage I have a 800 s
And let's get back to the sprague topic I would like to lurn about that next

My front sprague has not had any problems yet at 2300 miles so I will let it be.
Appears it's not an issue on the 2013.
But to address the belt issue, I installed the blow hole fan and it keeps it cool.
I destroyed a belt in the snow this year and ended up having to buy a new clutch housing because the heat warped it so much. Got so hot down there it actually melted my snorkel tube elbows.

Norm,

Polaris has made some improvements to the "roller cage" since 2008. But I think the at the very best you have their cast zinc roller cage.

It may well hold up, but if you're like me, I went ahead and changed it out...I don't need that kind of trouble on the trail.

I see that SuperATV now has a "Hardened Aluminum 6061" roller cage...

Just a thought,
