Starting to look at trailers for a 4 seater. Like the idea of enclosed for security, but on the other hand the wind drag might kill me on my 4000 mile round trips out west. I know I want aluminum, just trying to decide on open or enclosed.

Enclosed , you won't notice the wind drag till you get up around 70 or so,
but will keep your car outa the weather and a lot safer plus good for campin
Enclosed....keep your machine inside out of the elements and also keeps your machine safer from theft. Years ago I had my 900 on a open trailer, stopped at an In-N-Out burger and when I came out I discovered some items missing.
Sounds like you are doing some serious traveling so I would say enclosed is the only way to go for all the reasons mentioned above. I would suggest getting a V-nosed trailer and keep it to a minimum height to help with fuel mileage and drag.
I went with a 20' open cause I do mostly local trips and open is much easier to clean the mud off. It's was also cheaper and I can use it for hauling cars, lumber, or whatever but if I did overnight trips or went farther I would have got enclosed and just dealt with washing the mud out of it every time.
got a 18 fool open with a ramp for 1k...i would like a enclosed but at the prices for a 18 foot enclosed i feel like just buying a toy hauler for the long trips and keeping my open one for the day trips.
I have an open Aluma trailer. Great trailer and light Then the wife said she would like to get some thing that we could stay in. So I'm having a custom all aluminum 22 foot enclosed trailer made by inTech trailers. Both trailers have their advantages. If I was doing mostly day trips I would keep the Aluma open trailer. We will now be doing over night trips so the enclosed route works for us.
